mozilla's iot gateway as an rpm.
by Troy Dawson
Hi Jared,
Sorry for this taking so long. I finally got some time to work on the
gateway rpm. Though really, I need a second opinion to see if I
should proceed with what I've done or try something else.
As discussed a while ago, I have tried my hand at bundling the gateway
nodejs dependencies. The biggest problem with that was there was
several binary packages that it wanted. In the end, I bundled
everything but those packages, and those packages I created links in
the bundle. So the package depends on those binary nodejs packages,
but everything else is bundled.
I'm attaching my spec file, along with the gateway-tarball.sh that
does the bundling.
Could you let me know what you think?
I'm totally open to being completely wrong. This is the first time
I've done a nodejs bundling.
Troy
p.s. I figured I'd cc the rest of the iot mailling list incase anyone
else on here has any ideas.

Feedback wanted on the IoT getting started docs
by Peter Robinson
Hi All,
We've had some amazing work done by Susan on the getting started docs
and as a result they're already an order of magnitude better than what
they were. We'd love feedback to ensure they make sense and flow
correctly or if there's missing gaps or bits that need some
clarification. Even something as simple as spelling or grammar
improvements.
The URL for the latest version is: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/iot/
To report issues you can either raise an issue in the docs issue
tracker [1], submit a pull request to the docs git repo [2] or just
report the problem to replaying to this email.
I'm really looking forward to the feedback, I excited at the massive
improvements we have made in such a short time :-)

How do you use the IoT image? Samples and tasks for User's Guide
by Susan Lauber
A followup to yesterday's meeting.
I am looking for use case samples to help drive what needs to be covered in
a user's guide as well as use real examples when showing how to layer a
package or run a container.
I will take:
"I layer package X"
I'll take anything to build my collection of use case samples but I am also
hoping for something smallish to show as an example. Also for an example in
the docs, it should be something already in the repos.
I know Mozilla Gateway is in progress. What else?
I will take:
"I run app Y in a container"
Is there a public container I can show in search, pull, and run commands?
Bonus points if it is in the fedora registry rather than docker.io This
might be something that can also be used later used in demos at conferences.
How about a simple Dockerfile for your application?
I will also take links to blog posts that you have read (or written).
Things that could be done on a device running Fedora IoT. The article does
not have to already be using our images but it should be a project that
makes sense to setup up using our images for the core OS.
I have this F28 based one which also includes creating a Dockerfile to run
the commands in a container.

Thanks,
