0) So, this got me started. (If you're a one-trick pony, you'd better be a dedicated one-trick pony!)
1) These lines (in current master) seem pointless as of v3.17-rc7: Makefile:49: @perl -pi -e 's/# CONFIG_DEBUG_WRITECOUNT is not set/CONFIG_DEBUG_WRITECOUNT=y/' config-nodebug Makefile:59: @perl -pi -e 's/# CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL_CHECK is not set/CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL_CHECK=y/' config-nodebug Makefile.release:29: @perl -pi -e 's/CONFIG_DEBUG_WRITECOUNT=y/# CONFIG_DEBUG_WRITECOUNT is not set/' config-nodebug Makefile.release:39: @perl -pi -e 's/CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL_CHECK=y/# CONFIG_SYSCTL_SYSCALL_CHECK is not set/' config-nodebug
2) Moreover, there seem to be references to over 300 outdated Kconfig macros in master (ie, macros not found in v3.17-rc7 but not added by a Fedora specific patch). I'll paste a huge list at the end of this message.
3) If we want to clean this up: what would the easiest way to do that?

That list turned out to be, sort of, a mix of what's outdated in f20 and in origin/master. That stupidity doesn't really alter the actual question: how should all that be cleaned up (if we want to do that)?

Patch to remove them from the config-* hunks against master would be most appreciated. It's easy enough to apply and verify no actual changes in the resulting configs are modified. Barring that, a list against just master would work and I can clean up before 3.17 final. Either case would filter down to release branches as we rebase.
And I would certainly welcome cleanups.

Will do (one of these days).

I'm curious: how do you plan to verify that?

Run 'make prep'; copy off assembled configs; Apply patch to config-* hunks; run 'make prep' again; diff between newly generated configs and saved copies.
