sysadmin class
by Umarzuki Mochlis
Hi all,
This is probably off-topic but i'm seeking advice about "how can i get 30
students to get a hang of linux system administration while loving it"
They seemed to not remember what i had taught, even the simplest thing like
removing a line while using vim. One thing that i realized that most of
them, especially the boys are pretty must hyped when i taught to gain remote
access to another fedora system with ssh client and you can bet that they
had tried to reboot that ssh server.
Still searching the net about labs related to linux sysadmin and if anyone
want to share their idea, just reply to this post, don't be shy ;)

Google Summer of Code 2010 Light Talk @UTM, 27 March 2010
by Tan Kean Siong
Hi all, Just a event promotion from us, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Open
Source Software Group.
*
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
*
**
*Want to write open source code?
Want to make money USD 5000 with you code?
Want to do both?*
Historically, *Google Summer of Code* has brought together nearly 3,400
students with over 200 open source projects to create millions of lines of
code. We’re looking for
students to join in making 2010 the best Summer of Code yet! Every
successful
student contributors will be offered a 5,000 USD stipend, enabling them to
focus on their coding projects for three months.
The Google Summer of Code (GSOC) program is designed to encourage student
participation in open source development. Kicking off in 2005, the program
has several goals:
• Inspire young developers to begin participating in open source
development
• Provide students in Computer Science and related fields the opportunity
to do work related to their academic pursuits during the summer
• Give students more exposure to real-world software development scenarios
(e.g.,
distributed development, software licensing questions, mailing-list
etiquette, etc.)
• Get more open source code created and released for the benefit of all
• Help open source projects identify and bring in new developers and
committers
Student applications will be accepted from March 29–April 9, 2010!
For an exposure about the GCOS 2010, we as UTM Open Source Software Group
will organize the GSOC 2010 Light Talk @UTM. We will invite experienced
participant and also a GSOC mentor, Devtar Singh to explain about the
program, share his experiences and strategy to be selected for the program.
Feel free to attend :
*Google Summer of Code 2010 Light Talk @UTM
Date : 27 March 2010 (Saturday)
Time : 10am - 1pm
Venue : FSKSM N28 BK2 (Level 1),
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Skudai Campus
*
*Free Admission and open to all undergraduates and postgraduates!*

soft link
by Umarzuki Mochlis
I had created a soft link in user2 to access user1's Desktop
# ln -s /home/user1/Desktop /home/user2/user1-desktop
as root, i can list it (/home/user2/user1-desktop) and access the source
from that link via nautilus. But not as user2
i'm using fedora 12, but i cannot reproduce the same problem on my debian 5
and i had already disabled selinux (if it is related at all)

Re: [fedora-my] [ubuntu-my] Memasangan KVM Dalam Ubuntu 9.10
by wariola@gmail.com
Salam semua,
Berkenaan processor core 2 duo, bukan semua core 2 duo support hardware
virtualization especially utk notebook. Jadi sila check di laman web Intel
dahulu sebelum proceed. Kadangkala walaupun ada support hardware
virtualization, tp mesti di turn on dalam BIOS terlebih dahulu.
Utk Virtualbox pula, tidak timbul isu compile kernel jika install virtualbox
OSE dalam repo ubuntu. Dia akan take care semua dependencies.
Lps tu
restart utk pastikan kernel source dgn current kernel sama sebelum compile.
Commandnya "/etc/init.d/vboxsetup start".
(among others.. byk lagi).
kernel since 2.6.20.
Sekian celahan saya,
