from time to time my X competely hangs and only reboot fixes it, remote access is still possible and system networking is ok.
on serial output console i see the fiollowing messages:

RE: [Fedora-xen] yum update breaks xen
by Todd Foster
There is a bug n the xen package that gets downloaded with yum. Just
revert back to the xen package in the rpm dir in the fc5 distro and it
will work. The key to finding out if it's fixed is to see if
xen_install.py is present on the system.

Hey guys, I had a perfectly working xen install on my FC5 box running

figured maybe the new kernel release would help out.... quite the
opposite. Now, I cannot start any domUs. Here's a snippet from my

xend terminates with RuntimeError 'Connection refused'
by Nikos Vassiliadis
Hi all,
I've got this problem with xend and due to my ignorance about python
I can't get no further. Are any needed python libraries missing from
my system? It's an FC-5 minimal installation, on which I added several
python libs. Or is it a bug?

problems with xend-http-server
by Matthias Bayer
Hi,
i am using official xen-3.0.1-4 on FC5 with kernel 2.6.16-1.2107_FC5xen0 x86_64.
i am facing some problems with xend-http-server.
i have configure the following within xend-config.sxp:
(xend-http-server yes)
(xend-port 8000)
(xend-address '')
after restarting xend i am facing two different scenarios and behaviours that i don't understand/ need confirmed to see if this is a bug:
scenario 1:
1) connect from remote system to http://<my_xen_system>:8000/xend/
==> everything works fine, the xend page starts up and works
2) now connect to the same address from the xen system (from Dom0) either with a browser or by using 'wget http://<my_xen_system>:8000/xend/'
==> fails with message
Connecting to <my_xen_system>|16.57.34.76|:8000... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response...
scenario 2:
first restart xend using 'service xend restart'
1) connect from Dom0 using a web browser
==> works fine
2) connect from Dom0 using 'wget http://<my_xen_system>:8000/xend/'
==> works fine as well
3) connecting from Dom0 using wget http://localhost:8000/xend/'
==> works fine
4) connect from remote system with a web browser to http://<my_xen_system>:8000/xend/
==> works fine
5) connect again from Dom0 using 'wget http://<my_xen_system>:8000/xend/
==> fails again ......
Connecting to <my_xen_system>|16.57.34.76|:8000... connected.
BTW: if you use firefox locally on Dom0 to connect to the xend-http-server after the connection from remote was made before the system runs on a high load without doing anything ....
so i guess always after connection from remote to the xend-http-server i cannot connect to it from Dom0 afterwards - at least for some time .....
also over time since i enabled xend-http-server i see some messages on my serial console saying:
peth0: received packet with own address as source address
did somebody also see this message? what does it mean? where does it come from ?
can somebody confirm/explain the above described behaviour ? is this a bug ?
regards,
Matthias

FC5, Xen & LVM
by Ignacio Verona
Hi,
I'm only trying to see if I got the idea. Right now, I've a physical
machine, with FC5 and one FC5 guest running. I'm using a file as VBD for
the guest, and want to know exactly how the LVM stuff works on Xen. I've
a spare 40Gb partition, so imagine I create a LVM volume on that
partition and then I split the space into 3 logical volumes. As I need
to install 3 VMs on the machine, will I be able to easily resize the
partitions, so for example if suddenly I need 10Gb on one of the VMs I
can "stole" that Gbs of other VM?
Thanks for any reply, as I'm a little confused!

RE: [Fedora-xen] Unmodified 2003/2000/FC5 on XEN 3.0.2
by You, Yongkang
Hi Rafiq,
Sorry for response later. The configuration should be right for FC5.
I notice you build out Xen source yourself. You can try with this configuration:
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/xen.gz dom0_mem=262144 com1=115200,8n1
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6-xen0 ro root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0 console=tty0
module /boot/initrd-2.6.16-xen0.img
I can use above grub config to boot xen with serial output.
I suggest you can use Windows XP as the Windows guest testing. :-)
BTW, you Xen is pae enabled. But now the feature of “pae VMX on pae Host” is not supported. So you have to do some configuration in Windows to avoid VMX run into pae mode. :-) (Windows XP SP1 should not be pae enabled default.)

Subject: RE: [Fedora-xen] Unmodified 2003/2000/FC5 on XEN 3.0.2
Hi Yong,
Yes! I have tried windows 2003 and windows 2000 also and same problem prevails "on both". In the unsafe mode I can see that the drivers load on Windows 2003/2000 SDL VM console until they load mup.sys.
I am not able to connect the serial output. I have followed almost all the techniques given on the net for serial communication. This is my grub info.
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/xen.gz dom0_mem=1024096 com1=115200,8n1 sync_console
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6-xen0 ro root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0 console=tty0 pnpacpi=off
module /boot/initrd-2.6.16-xen0.img
Just to clarify, the serial output is basically connecting the serial port of the XEN system to remote host and capturing the output right? (the way we debug load time drivers??)
And my xm info is

Hi Rafig,
So you have tried Windows 2003 and 2000? And they all hang with the same phenomena?
Did you try to get the serial output when VMX hang? The qemu-log seemed okay. Could you tell more information such as Xen0 memory size and the VMX config you used? These could help developers to shoot the bug. And you can also report bugs to Xen directly. :-)
I didn’t try them before. But I am sure someone has successful experience of creating Windows XP VMX with Xen 3.0.2/

After this it hangs.Attached is the qemulog.

Installing a different distribution as guest
by Lars Erik Dangvard Jensen
Hi list
How do I install a different distribution as a guest/domU on Fedora
core 5 dom0?
I just want to install ubuntu or debian sarge onto a lvm partition.
Is there anyone out there with at working approach?
I've tried a debootstrap for Fedora etc. but I get errors that chroot
doesn't work.
I've also tried to make a boot partition, but then I get kernel panic.
I use the 64 bit FC5 edition, maybe that's my trouble?
Thanks
Lars
