How is network bridging for Xen handled in F7?
by Christian Reiter
Hi!
Can anybody tell me where i can find docs about handling network bridges for xen domUs in Fedora 7?
Something changed since FC6, so i cannot figure out how to create simple bridges without dhcp for my xen domUs.
All what i want is:
xenbrINTERNET should bridge to eth1
xenbrLAN should bridge to eth0
eth0 and eth1 of my dom0 should also have an IP Address.
I do not want routing or nat for my domUs.
Thanks!

christian

Xen 3.2 on CentOS 5.1
by Robin Bowes
Hi,
I'm about to commission a new dom0 host to host multiple dom0 instances
for testing purposes. I'm currently trying to decide what platform to
use. I've previously used FC6 and CentOS5 as Dom0 hosts.
I'd like to be able to use Xen 3.2, and I see RPMS are available from
xen.org for CentOS5.
My current questions:
Do I need to do anything other than install the xen 3.2 RPMS on my
CentOS 5.1 system? i.e. Do I need to build a new initrd or anything, or
does the xen RPM install take care of that?
Do I continue to use the CentOS kernel-xen?
Will tools like virt-install work the same with xen 3.2 as with xen 3.1?
Are any other distros more suitable for use with xen 3.2? I prefer
Redhat/CentOS/Fedora flavours as that's what I'm most comfortable with,
but I'm not averse to try something else if it is more appropriate.
Thanks for any responses, advice, suggestions, pointers to FAQs, etc.

problem installing 64 bit domU
by Augusto Castelan Carlson
Hello!
I have Fedora Unity 8 (20071218) x86_64 running in an Athlon 64 (512
RAM) with xen. I'm using the re-spin version because I need kickstart
install to be done from CD/DVD. I'm using this machine with small RAM
for tests only.
When I try to install the domU using virt-manager, it hangs when I
click the first next button after anaconda installer started. The
button stays pressed an nothing happens.
When I try to install the domU using virt-install, it gives a black
screen after starting anaconda installer.
# virt-install -n myguest -r 256 --vnc -l ftp://10.1.121.201/ -x
ks=ftp://10.1.121.201/guest.cfg -f /dev/vgadm/lvadm1
The ftp server is the dom0
xen-libs-3.1.0-13.fc8
kernel-xen-2.6.21-2952.fc8
xen-3.1.0-13.fc8
libvirt-0.3.3-2.fc8
virt-manager-0.5.2-2.fc8
virt-viewer-0.0.2-2.fc8
With Fedora Unitity 8 for i386 everything goes fine.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Augusto

management of this list
by John Summerfield
there are some things I don't like about the way this list is implemented, the
key one being that it's set to default to sending replies off-list.
My preferred email clients (Thunderbird and Seamonkey) do not have any means
of sending replies only to the list, so I find myself sometimes sending
replies I intend for the list, off-list.
Worse, I miss replies to some of my queries; I've seen replies in the archives
that haven't made it to me.
I have visited https://www.redhat.com/mailman/options/fedora-xen and
turned "Avoid duplicate copies of messages" off, but still miss replies.
The whole issue would be solved, both for incoming and outgoing email, if the
default list behaviour was changed to send replies to the list; this is
appropriate for a discussion such as this.
Please, Could this be done?

How to change resolution above 1024x768 in guess OS?
by Mark Hutchinson
RHEL 5 XEN
Virtualized guest is RHEL 3WS.
I can only get 1024x768 for max resolution in the guest. I have 1600x1200
for real-estate on the monitor. I am using Virt-manager and getting the
screen for there. If I crank up the resolution in my guest, it seems to
stop at 10x24x768(24 bit color )
This is using VNC to connect right? Is there a config for that to set
connection resolution size?
The client is seen to have a cirrus logic video card with 8 Megs of RAM.
Anyone know a way to change this or to force at least 1280x1024 ( I would
prefer 1600x1200 )
Assistance appreciated!

How to backup a Domu filesystem (on LVM) from Dom0 on Fedora 8 ?
by Anne Facq
Hello
I use XEN on Fedora 8 with Domu on a LVM partition.
Before, on Fedora Core 6, I could backup each Domu by directly mounting
the filesystem of the Domu (mount /dev/vg00/lvfoo /mnt) and then running
dump on it.
On Fedora 8, I can't mount directly the filesystem of the Domu, so I
backup the filesystem of the Domu using the dd command (dd
if=/dev/vg00/lvfoo of=/var/xen/lvfoo.img)
But the backup with dd is longer and takes more disk space than the
backup with dump, as dd copies unused blocks.
Is there a better method to backup a Domu filesystem from Dom0 on Fedora 8 ?
Thanks in advance

Upgrade to development xen on F8?
by John Summerfield
I'm a bit torn between asking here and asking on the Fedora test list.
I'd like to use the latest xen (that's what I'm testing), but I don't want to
upgrade to the entire development tree.
I tried this, and was astonished at the number of packages to upgrade!
[root@potoroo ~]# yum install --disablerepo=* --enable=development kernel-xen
kernel-xen-2.6-doc xen xen-hypervisor xen-libs xenwatch | wc -l
Error: Missing Dependency: kdemultimedia3 >= 3.5.8 is needed by package
kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree
845
[root@potoroo ~]#
Those 845 lines represent upgrading pretty much all of KDE and all of Gnome.
The package "xen" alone accounts for much of this:
[root@potoroo ~]# yum install --disablerepo=* --enable=development xen | wc -l
Error: Missing Dependency: kdemultimedia3 >= 3.5.8 is needed by package
kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree
844
[root@potoroo ~]#
My idea of an ideal host for virtual machines is one that runs guests and
precious little else, and certainly not a GUI and all the baggage that
entails.
Do these *xen* packages build on f8? What's the easy way to get the source - I
used to use up2date, but I fear the technolgogy's getting ahead of me.

It's only the glob messages that concern me.

kernel-xen, qemu, kvm etc summary and speed of virtual machines in F8
by Philip Rhoades
People,
Is there available a plain summary of how all the different bits of
virtualisation fit together? The stuff I have found so far is more
confusing than anything . .
I have been toying around with virtual machines on FC6, F7 and now F8
but there seems to have been a big slow-down in performance with F8?
This speed issue is why I have been trying to get a better understanding
of how all the bits fit together, see where the bottlenecks are and what
I can do to improve performance so that I might use the virtual machines
for real work.
I have installed:
kernel-xen-2.6.21-2952.fc8
xen-libs-3.1.2-1.fc8
xen-3.1.2-1.fc8
qemu-0.9.0-5.fc8
kvm-36-7.fc8
Thanks,
Phil.
