kernel OoPs after updating to 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6xen
by Asrai khn
Hi,
Today after updating kernel-xen to 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6xen on one of our host I
got kernel oops and machine rebooted, when it come back again i have no
other choice but to edit grub.conf and make the last working kernel '
2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6xen' the default one which working fine.
DemU(s) working fine with with same kernel 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6xen, we use
loopback mounted fs for domU(s)
Here are the messages i found on screen before machine got rebooted (Note:
machine is remote to me thousands of miles away therefore i can't check its
boot screen :-S )
Now I am reluctant to update kernel-xen on our other remote hosts, never
got into such issue on FC6 while updated kernel-xen. In help/suggestion will
be greatly appreciated.

xen aware guest os
by pradeep ratnala
Hi
I am trying to build a xen aware guest kernel ....I have 2.6.16 as the host
kernel over which I built a fc5-xen kernel..Now I am trying to build a custom
xen aware kernel over this. Can someone help me in this...Is there any step
by step procedure for doing this?...To my knowledge I may have to remove all
the direct hardware driver links in the custom kernel....
Thanx

Using xen to run an already installed OS ?
by Pavel Tsekov
Hello,
Is it possible to setup a guest OS using an existing installation
of a given OS ? I only seem to find references for creating guests
via a fresh install of the guest OS ?
Thanks!

Xen network problem
by Daniel
Hi
I have a Fedora Core 6 Xen box running two Linux hosts and one Windows
Server 2003 host. I am having trouble with the Windows VM network. It
was working fine but for some reason it has decided to stop. I can not
ping the Windows VM for Domain-0 and I can not ping out from the Windows
VM. The Windows VM has and detects the network interfaces no problem.
The Windows VM network did work fine but stop for some strange reason.
Both Linux hosts work fine. Each VM has two vif. Both don't work in the
problem VM. It is the last VM to be started on boot. The other two VMs
have two vif each as well. vif0 is bound to eth0 and vif1 is bound to
eth1. I notice this machine has only 8 loop devs could this be the problem?
Any help greatly appreciated as I am stumped.
xen-3.0.3-8.fc6
xen-libs-3.0.3-8.fc6
kernel-xen-2.6.20-1.2933.fc6
I get this in dmesg which I guess is my problem:
device vif5.0 entered promiscuous mode
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): vif5.0: link is not ready
device vif5.1 entered promiscuous mode
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): vif5.1: link is not ready

Daniel

Createing/working with disk images
by Lamont R. Peterson
All,
I need to create some images that pygrub can boot (on FC6 & RHEL5). IIUC,
that means that the image file must be a disk image complete with partition
table.
The trouble I'm running into is figuring out how to access the "partition"
within the disk image file as a block device. This is necessary in order to
format or mount the filesystems and run mkswap for the disk image's swap
partition.
Here's what I have so far.
1. Create the disk image file, ala "dd if=/dev/zero
of=/var/lib/xen/images/someVM/sda bs=1k seek=4608k count=1"
2. Create partitions with fdisk (this requires setting the number of
cylinders, but that's easy).
3. losetup /dev/loop0 /var/lib/xen/images/someVM/sda
At this point, I can run "fdisk -l /dev/loop0" and get:
Disk /dev/loop0: 4831 MB, 4831839232 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 587 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/loop0p1 1 523 4200966 83 Linux
/dev/loop0p2 524 588 522112+ 82 Linux swap /
Solaris
However, there is no /dev/loop0p1 or /dev/loop0p2 devices and I'm not sure
what to do to make those accessible. I need to be able
to "mke2fs -j /dev/loop0p1" and "mkswap /dev/loop0p2" or equivalent. Then I
need to mount /dev/loop0p1 to copy files to it.
How can I access partitions inside a disk image as block devices? Should I be
using something other than losetup here?

Re: [et-mgmt-tools] what happen? :(
by John Sanabria
Hi Michael, i'm sending your response to fedora-xen mailing list for any
comments from them.
About your answer, the machine where i want to create a new virtual node
is the 136.145.116.76. This machine has two virtual nodes up and running,
so i think that message is not a hypervisor problem, the hypervisor is
working.
The other hand, last week i create two additional virtual nodes, in that
machine (116.76), the problem appear today.
Asides, the distro and profile configuration keep the same.
I can't understand why today, provisioning with cobbler stop to work.
Thanks a lot to fedora-xen mailing list for your comments and thanks Michael.

Windows XP install failed on FC6-Xen
by NoisilySilent
Hi,
Installation hangs after first reboot during Windows XP installation
procedure.
System first boots from CD as expected, formats an NTFS file system, copies
installation files, reboots and . hangs.
Looking at the log, I had a "vncpasswd error" => created a vncpasswd and got
rid of this error message.
Now, no error is logged, but still I get a blank screen whenever I try to
"xm create" this Windows host.
System is a Dell Latitude D620 notebook, Intel Core2 Duo processor, FC6
downloaded last week, Xen installed via YUM, so I don't know exactly which
version yum installs, 3.?.?
Anybody got clues, as I didn't find anything through google search?
Cheers

installing vista using xen
by Deependra Singh Shekhawat
Hello,
Can I install windows vista using Xen. If possible how much RAM and disk
space should I allocate for windows vista (minimum) and if there are some
other precautionary measures to be taken.
Thanks in advance.

installing winxp on rhel5
by Deependra Singh Shekhawat
Hello guys,
I have RHEL5. I want to install Windows XP on it using Xen. I heard I need
PAE enabled processor. So I did the following:
[root@server ~]# grep -i pae /proc/cpuinfo
And I got this:
flags : fpu tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr mca cmov pat clflush dts
acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc pni monitor vmx est tm2
xtpr
flags : fpu tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr mca cmov pat clflush dts
acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc up pni monitor vmx est
tm2 xtpr
[root@server ~]#
Does this tells that I have PAE enabled processor. One more thing I have 512
MB RAM (physical total RAM). So how much should I give to the Virtual
Machine and last thing the installation source in this case can be a CD or
ISO image.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Deependra
