disabling second nic and HP firmware cd...

Folks, Is there a built in 'correct' way to ensure that my second nics are not configured during build and left alone when using the network config snippets delivered with cobbler? RIght now, when the nodes finish building, the undefined second nic tries to dhcp even though I've not given it a config. I am getting around this by making the appropriate changes to ifcfg-eth1 via two 'sed' lines but if there is a 'better' way I'd rather do that than rely on a post config. Also, are people using the livecd boot method for booting HP firmware disks? How about the SSTK? Thanks Corey

cobbler with no local mirroring?

I know, installation server with batteries included... but we've got this connection to the power grid already up and running and would like to use that but still use cobbler. :) Basically, we've got a mirror server already. It has plenty of resources, and it's set up to automatically sync and so on. I'd therefore like to avoid duplicating effort (and wasting disk space) in cobbler, and point entirely at that remote mirror. The "Non-Import (Manual) Workflow" with --mirror-locally=N seems to get us part way there, but we still need to do things like "distro add" pointing to local kernel/initrd files This can't be that uncommon of a use case, can it? I must be missing something. Is there a secret way to distro add (or better yet "cobbler import") with the equivalent of --mirror-locally=N? Thanks! Cobbler - Scientific Linux Import ...

I am currently working on the setup of cobbler on the University of Johannesburg's Cluster environment. We use Scientific Linux, and I noticed a bug that was posted a while ago about importing the distro into cobbler: http://www.mail-archive.com/cobbler@lists.fedorahosted.org/msg02539.html Has there been any further development on this ? We are wanting to automate our installations, but have encountered EXACTLY the same problem .. If there is anything I can test or do to help solve this, I am more than willing to help. Ubuntu deployment support in Cobbler

Hi folks. I have been using cobbler to deploy Scientific Linux for about two years and with some fudging (lost each update, but hey), I was able to make it work for me. I am very happy which most of the features of cobbler and it made my life easier. I am thankful to all that put effort in making such a fine piece of software. We are now switching to Ubuntu and it would be great to be able to deploy a few hundred Ubuntu machines using cobbler as well. Unfortunately, cobbler does not currently support Ubuntu (despite the claims to the contrary). Is any work being done on this, or am I barking up the wrong tree and should be looking for a different deployment solution instead? I created a ticket for a clear show-stopper (Ubuntu supported kickstart fails invariably at PXE boot ... manually editing the PXE boot config for each system after each sync is not an option). The ticket number is #589. No activity that I could detect on this one. (I hope the answer here is not ... use preseeding. I would if you could pass values to the script the way you can to a kickstart script) This is not the only thing that does not work. Beside some convenience features I can live without (the widely discussed import), there are serious issues that I am not willing to look past e.g. - no Ubuntu repos can be created by cobbler - no local mirrors can be created by cobbler ... the list goes on. Cobbler proxy

Hi We are using cobbler for provisioning and spacewalk for management. I am now needing to use proxies to be able to centrally manage hosts but also allow local installs. I have setup a spacewalk proxy but experience the following issue, during install the client gets the ks through the proxy and anaconda starts. Stage2 is downloaded and the repo data is retrieved again all through the proxy without problem. The issue is that when the actual rpm transaction starts the packages can't be downloaded it just sits asking to retry. Strangly if I get another terminal on the client I can wget the rpm using the same URL that anaconda seems to have the issue with so I am a bit stumped. If I put a proxypass rule on the proxy so that it points directly to the server, bypassing squid, the install works although nothing is caches so slightly defeats the point. Any clues anyone as I am tearing my hair out here as it makes no sense to me. How do others achieve this? Thanks

PXE booting Virtual Machines?

Hi all, For various reasons I'm rewriting a lot of what koan does in Ruby. I have to use Ruby to provision my virtual machines from cobbler and shelling out to Koan is not what I want to do. I've got the system to pull the system definition from cobbler using the XMLRPC::get_system_for_koan() call and I'm defining and provisioning the VMs as well as the storage and this works, however they won't PXE boot. The VMs are defined by XML and are set to use the network as their boot medium, they can receive an IP Address but they do not get a file provided by cobbler despite the MAC Address matching the definition in Cobbler. If I use Koan, it works fine, however the XML Files that Koan saves to disk only have a HDD boot option, not a network one! Please help before I go home without any hair tonight! ;) Kind regards, Matt

system-x86 instead of kvm

Hi, Running Fedora13 here and always used cobbler to install kvm-based virtual machines on my local laptop. Now there's something wrong here and i can't figure out what: Whenever i roll out a vm, it gets launched with (the horribly slow) qemu-system-x86 instead of (the fast) qemu-kvm. Any ideas? Léon
