'cobbler system getks --name=...' might also choke here.
If I define a system, and run getks, it does generate the file. With
the koan invocation, I'm using --profile, though.

Ah sorry, got that wrong.
Then my suggestion would be to try the native autoyast templates that
are shipped with cobbler, those should be delivered. These can be
changed piece by piece into your desired format, always checking if
the changes are still delivered ok.
OK. Sadly, this is a case of this XML file working fine with an older
version of cobbler, but choking on this version of cobbler. I'll see
what I can figure out.
