Dear All:
A weak ago I emailed the below question to the list (with no response).
Here is some more info -- maybe this tells you guys anything ... and
an add-on question:
(1) To summarize the p r o b l e m -- the server were a new OS
should be installed does not communicate with the Cobbler server:
"PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received"
(2) Now, I looked at the Cobbler server's error log, and I see this
during teh install attempt:
------
Sat Nov 6 10:20:23 2010 - DEBUG | authorize; ['<DIRECT>', 'sync',
None, None, True]
Sat Nov 6 10:20:23 2010 - DEBUG | REMOTE authorization result: True; user(?)
Sat Nov 6 10:20:23 2010 - INFO | REMOTE start_task(Sync);
event_id(2010-11-06_102023_sync); user(?)
Sat Nov 6 10:20:24 2010 - INFO | sync
Sat Nov 6 10:20:24 2010 - DEBUG | get_items; ['repo']
Sat Nov 6 10:20:30 2010 - DEBUG | API handle initialized
Sat Nov 6 10:20:30 2010 - DEBUG | XMLRPC running on 25151
------
If I look at earlier entries there, they tell me at least something
about e.g the system names or kickstart files, etc. Here there seems
really no communication at all.
(3) The server/s where I try to reinstall the OS (CentOS) have all
still a working install of CentOS. I now wonder if the disabling of
certain services that CSF firewall security check tool suggested
(when we were using these servers) has something to do with that. FOR
EXAMPLE, we disabled the "anacron" and "cups" service and others.
Sorry about my naivety -- these are only running AFTER the OS already
started, or is there any sort of pre-run start of services that I may
have disabled that Cobbler requires?
Thanks for your attention!
Frank
Hello All:
Someone from this list was so very kind several weeks ago to help me
installing Cobbler 2.003 on a VPS server account. It ha snow stopped
working, and I can;t figure out why so.
When looking at what happens at the server via KVM (I tried this with
several presently unused servers) I see that the server is set up to
look for Cobbler, but can't find it (sorry about my terminology):
-------------------
Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v.1.3.31 IBA GE Slot 00C8 v1331 PXE 2.1 Build 086

CLIENT MAC ADDRESS: 00 27 0E UW 37 CF GUID: 6400C22C A4A0 11DE ...
PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received.
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
Boot Failure
Press any key to continue
-------------------
The MAC Address above has been altered ... but I am in Cobbler I sure
entered the correct one, and the correct IP also.
Would it make any difference is the server already has a working OS
installed (which is the case in all servers I tried)?
Is there anyone who could possibly help me with this? I am willing to pay.
Also, would it make any different
Best wishes,
Frank
