Good question. Perhaps a Fedora mirrors problem; I suspect it'll get
the latest version again in the next build.

New subject: New XO-1.5 10.2.0 build 125 - control panel
This probably belongs to SugarLabs Devel but maybe the control panel layout must be
reengineered to properly fit all the controls.
In the current layout is easy to miss the scroll-bar at the bottom and he software
update/language panels.
With the upcoming touchpad control panel, and maybe more things to come, is going to get
worse.
Smaller icons should be an easy immediate fix and maybe tabs could be considered for the
future.

at least on the screen size of the XO-1.
The correct approach, of course, would be computing the number of rows
from the current width of the window divided by the width of each
column. (patches welcome).

Yes, but this is not general enough. It only happens to work for the
1200x900 display used by the XO-1 and XO-1.5. It would break even there
if we change the font size or translate to a language with longer words.

I also found the slidebar in the control panel confusing. We could do
tabs, thereby making more space for icons, but then it occurred to me:
Why does Control Panel run as a "popup" (i.e. layered over something
in the background) and not like any other activity (i.e. fullscreen) ?
Even the Journal runs fullscreen. We'd get more space and will be able
to use menus, etc.
While I'm at it, here's another thing that might be useful, esp. in
environments with lots of APs. A filter mechanism to show locked APs
vs open ones. I suppose remote environments won't have that many
radios, but in urban environments (such as San Francisco) it becomes
an issue.

Indeed. I also think we're abusing the centralized control panel concept
for settings that could stay closer to the UI element they refer to.
For example:
* "Network" should be available somewhere from the neighbor view.
* "Modem Configuration" could become a menu item of the GSM device
* "Power" could become a single checkbox in the battery menu
The control panel should really be for global system-wide settings.

"evenly spaced" was the wrong phrase, sorry. I've tested again on Sugar
0.88, the icons are not regularly positioned horizontally. That is,
their centre to centre distance varies. This looks unpleasant to me.

Agreed. I had only typed "a", and there was no response. When I type
"ab" the "About Me", "About my Computer" and
"Network" icons remain
sensitive, all others are insensitive. Doesn't work on 0.84.

Oh, I see. Doesn't disturb me so much, at least with the Spanish
labels. Wrapping might cause other kinds of difficulties...
Anyway, someone should rework this code at least to compute the number
of columns dynamically. Now it goes off-screen even with 4 columns.

Even better, we should never bump the minor release number and sneak new
features along with security updates, like Microsoft and Apple always
do. Only, their "critical updates" sometimes happen to bring in new DRM
schemes and stricter license enforcement ;-)

I updated from (a clean install of) os124 to os125 via olpc-update which proceeded fine.
However, all the applications that have been added in Gnome disappeared and had to be
reinstalled. Fortunately, user application data/configs in the home directory persisted,
so only apps should be yum installed again.
I can appreciate that Gnome is not a priority, but is there and likely to be used. Would
be nice if user additions could persist through olpc-update. It is conceivable that
deployments may use Gnome apps too, and shouldn't be forced to reinstall after an
update.
I guess this is a feature request...
