Problems on a very current FC6
by Brian Dykstra
Hi,
I just found this project this morning and eagerly installed Kadischi
after an ugly experience last night with live-linux scripts.
My system is a running kernel 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6
I've yum updated all the packages and installed everything required from
the wiki install documentation. I had no problem compiling the source.
So basically I'm very current and ready to go.
When I ran # kadischi --help I got the following error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/share/kadischi/kadischi.py", line 8, in ?
from functions import *
File "/usr/local/share/kadischi/lib/functions.py", line 12, in ?

File "/usr/lib/anaconda/isys.py", line 32, in ?
import block
File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/block/__init__.py", line 33, in ?
from bdevid import bdevid as _bdevid
ImportError: libparted-1.7.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory
I dug up an older version of parted and install libparted-1.7.so.1 but ran
into all new errors:
[root@ ~]# kadischi --help
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/share/kadischi/kadischi.py", line 8, in ?
from functions import *
File "/usr/local/share/kadischi/lib/functions.py", line 12, in ?

File "/usr/lib/anaconda/isys.py", line 32, in ?
import block
File "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/block/__init__.py", line 33, in ?
from bdevid import bdevid as _bdevid
ImportError: /usr/lib/libbdevid.so.5.1.19: undefined symbol:
ped_exception_get_handler
I was wondering if anyone had Kadischi working on current FC6 (I saw the
Unity CD release) and had some pointers?
Thanks

These topics are being discussed on 'fedora-devel-list'
Why can't they also be passed on to fedora-list?
This according to the main page is where the discussions
pertaining to fedora users should belong. This is where there
are more users and more discussions/rants/etc.
Thanks for the info,
Antonio

Proposed changes for fedora
by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
When visiting Distrowatch.com, I found the following
information about Fedora
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20061127
Far-reaching changes affecting the Fedora distribution
are looming on the horizon. Discussed by the project's
core developers during the recently concluded Fedora
Summit, a number of new ideas are currently being
submitted for approval by Red Hat. If they are
accepted, the "Core" and "Extras" parts of Fedora will
merge into what is tentatively called Fedora
"Complete", with two separate products, named "Fedora
Desktop" and "Fedora Server", emerging from the huge
software list. Extending the current support period of
about 9 months to around 13 months is another
important proposal that will please many Fedora users.
Those who enjoy remastering the distribution for their
own purposes will be excited to learn about "pungi"
and "pilgrim", two tools that will allow building
custom distributions and live CDs/DVDs. Pilgrim is
also expected to help with delivering an official
Fedora live CD/DVD. There is a lot more - please visit
the Proposed Changes to the Release Process and Live
CD Roadmap pages on FedoraProject.org for more details
about these and other changes affecting the popular
distribution.
Is there any way for the community to have some input
on these issues?
Is there also another way to find out that these
changes are being proposed? Many community members
are uninformed and object to some changes when they
are made, but since they had no voice they could not
do anything about it.
Some of these changes like "Fedora Total" seem very
logical. We'll still have to wait and see what
happens.
Regards,
Antonio

Live "USB" trends amd Fedora live CD
by Wayne Sherman
I have been researching live distros, and it seems to be a trend that
Live "CD" distros are increasingly supporting Live "USB" also. For
example, DSL has a "5-way install script" that supports several boot
options:
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/usb.html
One thing I really like is that in addition to booting directly from CD
or USB, you can also boot from inside another Windows or Linux
environment using the Qemu emulator:
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/usb-qemu.html
I really like Fedora, and hope the developers will officially
incorporate live USB support since many users want to boot from a USB
memory device. Are there any plans for this?
I suggest considering a change of the name from Fedora Live "CD" to
something more general. Booting from USB, CD, Qemu, IEEE1394, and
network are all possible booting options.
Thanks,
Wayne

Happy TG! What's goin' on with the pilgrims?
by Jane Dogalt
So I've been following this fedora summit thing, and it sounds like the
current fc6 livespin is by no means the end of the fedora livecd
project.
So David, Can you elaborate a bit on pilgrim's future? Are there any
resources/websites/forums/repositories/goalslists/milestonetargets that
the readers of this list would be interested in?
I'll be busy with finals for awhile, but I might be able to contribute
something after that, and in the spring. Certainly I intend to
demonstrate my userspace qemu automated system image generator,
combined with with a pilgrim/lfs style livecd COW mechanism.

Unionfs for live CD?
by Jos Vos
Hi,
Has the use of unionfs <http://www.am-utils.org/project-unionfs.html>
be considered for the Fedora live CD i.s.o. bind mounts?
I've looked at Unionfs long ago and at that moment it was not stable
enough and it was lacking some features, but things may have changed.

fc6 livespin torrent anybody?
by Jane Dogalt
Anybody have any insight into whats up with fedoraunity? They exploded
several days ago, and haven't bothered to put any kind of meaningful
explanation up on their page.
Specifically, anybody got a working torrent of the fc6 livespin they
were hosting?
Are there any plans to have an infrastructure for hosting official
fedora livecds that doesn't depend on them? (or are there backup sites
I'm unaware of?)
