F7 general question about livecd-creator and timezones
by Skunk Worx
My ks scripts have the timezone set to PDT (America/Los_Angeles).
Installation to a hard drive works as expected. PDT in startup and in
shells, etc.
Creating a livecd-creator iso with the same tz setting, then booting,
shows A/L_A in the /etc/sysconfig/clock file, as expected.
However the date is always EDT in the boot messages, shells, etc.
During startup I see :
(lvm)
Press I to enter interactive startup
Setting clock (utc) Mon Jun 4 00:12:59 EDT 2007
(udev)
I'm not clear on what is happening between lvm and udev in the Linux
startup sequence.
If someone could give me a hint about what to look for and where to look
for it I would appreciate the help.

Customize users of the image Live
by Thiago Braga Santana
Hello to everyone.
How can I do for the standard Windows Manager, log on the "root" instead of
the user "fedora" in the environment "Live"?
How should I proceed to the image LiveCd that I am creating, contains only
the user "root"?

Refactoring livecd-creator and providing an API
by Jeremy Katz
It's time to get back to something that's been discussed on and off for
a while now and really do it. And that's to refactor out the core of
livecd-creator so that it can be used for generating other types of
images as well as then providing an API to be used by people wanting to
build various types of interfaces on top of the tools.
After sitting down and poking a little, I've got something that I'm at
least starting to be happy with and figure it's about time to put it up
for others to look at and poke at. Right now, the git tree is on
fedorapeople rather than in the main repo. You can get it with
git clone http://katzj.fedoraproject.org/git/livecd-tools.git
I've written up a short overview of the API and included it in the repo
and attached it to this message as well. I've tried to keep the amount
that we expose pretty minimal so that we can continue to have a fair bit
of freedom in changing out the backend bits, especially the ones related
to writing out configuration[1] info.
Comments and suggestions appreciated, especially from those building on
top of livecd-tools or wanting to build other image builders. I'm going
to likely go ahead and get this merged within the next week or so as
long as it's not entirely crazy. Also, it's pending on splitting up the
current __init__ into separate modules to allow for cleaner namespacing
Jeremy
[1] In the future, this is something that we want to be able to share
with anaconda as we're currently doing a lot of duplication of bugfixes
and having to deal with slight variations in behavior between the two.
Which sucks.

LiveCD arch?
by Gary Thomas
I want to build a LiveCD for arch=ppc, but run the build
process on arch=ppc64. If my repositories have both flavors
of packages, how do I tell livecd-creator to select the ppc
packages (rather than the ppc64 ones)?
Thanks

Help needed running a process at boot time on livecd
by Elias Hunt
I'm not sure the specifics of what I'm requesting, so I'll cover what
I'm trying to accomplish and see if anyone can help me figure out where
to do it.
Our use of livecd's is for a custom appliance that stores data on the
local drive of a machine, but uses a livecd for the OS. This is to
prevent permanent modifications to the OS itself. As part of the livecd
setup we have a mount point pre-configured for the hard disk. Everything
works perfectly, if the disk is formatted as an ext3 partition. However
when setting up a new system or replacing a drive the boot process does
the typical "can't mount disk" error and prompts for the admin password.
At this point I have to log in and run a script that's on the cd to
partition and format the drive, then reboot.
What we want to get to is a point where if the booting CD detects an
unpartitioned/unformatted drive it will automatically run the script and
reboot itself, without requiring a user to log on. This is important in
the long run since most of our appliances are run headless.
I think this might be something that needs to be in the init process,
but my understanding here is limited, and I'm not sure exactly how to
determine the state of the drive and make the decision to run the
script.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recognize this isn't exactly
appropriate for this list, but I'm hoping someone here will know about
this stuff, and can take it offline with me if it's not useful to others
here.
Thanks.
-Eli

Problems building live CD
by Gary Thomas
I'm trying to build a custom CD, using the installed package from F8.
I started with the F8 release repository, fiddled a few packages and
rebuilt the repodata (using 'createrepo -d')
When I run the live CD creator, I get this error:
Error creating Live CD : Unable to download from repo : failure: repodata/primary.sqlite.bz2 from
released: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
