I've seen this as well but I can't swear that it's not due to my
physical keyboard (el cheapo $12 Fry's special). The fact that someone
else sees it makes me think that it's not.
I can't really reproduce it, though, and it's only happened to me a
couple of times.
I've gotten this before on RHL9, with a USB keyboard. It doesn't seem
to be happening recently though.
It could be kernel, X, or the desktop env, pretty hard to track down
especially when it's not reproduceable.
