Test2: Installation aborted installing Samba packages
by mb
Hi all,
I got my installation aborted yesterday, I chose all the packages, but I got
an error when Samba was being installed. The msg said that my CD 1 was
damaged, and the installation was aborted.
Using the same CD I chose a' Workstation' installation and it finished
successfully.
Today I checked the checksum of the ISO files that I downloaded and with
md5sum
and the checksum was the same as the one included in the site I got
these files. I also
mounted the CD1 and installed manually Samba, but I got some warnings:
[root@197 RPMS]# rpm -ivh samba-client-3.0.0-5rc1.i386.rpm
warning: samba-client-3.0.0-5rc1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key
ID 897da 07a
Preparing... ###########################################
[100%]
1:samba-client ###########################################
[100%]
[root@197 RPMS]# rpm -ivh samba-3.0.0-5rc1.i386.rpm
warning: samba-3.0.0-5rc1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 897da07a
Preparing... ###########################################
[100%]
1:samba ###########################################
[100%]
That was the reason the installer aborted the installation yesterday?
Something strange that I found today is that the application used to
install the packages
(under System settings -> add/remove applications) couldn't install
Samba. I got
the packages lists, but without the check button to select them. Maybe
it was related to
the same problem.
Any comment is welcome.

Where is the ACPI?
by Lorenzo Prince
I tested the first release of Severn on my laptop and had no trouble with it. The ACPI worked beautifully. But in this
release, it detects the ACPI system in the machine, but it gives me a message during bootup that says
acpi: interpreter disabled
and ACPI doesn't work. If I type
service acpid (insert anything here)
I get no messages of any kid. However when I run
acpid
I get the error message
acpid: /proc/acpi/event: no such file or directory
What do I need to do to fix this?
Thanks,
Prince

Fedora Core Test 2
by James Drabb
Hey group,
I just installed Fedora Core Test 2. What repo's can I point to
so I can get the standard fedora packages? I want to install things
like MPlayer, etc.
Thanks,
Jim Drabb

observations from 0.94
by Ben Hsu
A few observations on 0.94:
The "Upgrade existing installation" option tries to do a "mount -a". Is
this new? It was failing because my 1394 drive was turned off. But I
probably should not have "auto" for that in fstab anyway
I had KDE as my default desktop. The upgrade set it back to GNOME. Might
this be because I had tinkered with my gdm configuration (added non-RH
GNOME and KDE to the options)?
Is there anyway to disable the "beep" on the login screen?

Re: Fedora2 up2date fails at livna.org load
by Lars G
sorry don't know how to fix this but i have the exact same behavior here.

My up2date program just stops when trying to fetch updates from the
stire rpm/http://rpm.livna.org//base/pkglist.redhat/9.0/i386.bz2. The
progress log shows complete and the background window moves ahead to the
"Skipped Packages" window, but the progress dialog stays there with a
100% indication and up2date itself just stops.
I can kill the progress menu and hit "Back" or "Cancel" to get out of
this, but I can't go forward.
If I disable all non-Redhat sites in the channels list before trying,
everything works just fine.
Ideas on how to fix this?
Cheers,
Chris

Install didn't probe my ethernet card
by sindre pedersen
I chose to upgrade from my redhat 9 system to fedora test2. The install didn't locate my network-card, a RL-8139/8139C/8139C+ which left me without net. My ethernet model wasn't in the list of cards when I tried to add it using redhat-config-network.
I downloaded the latest stable kernel (using my other computer) and installed it. When I booted it, my networking card was in the list of cards.
I then rebooted, and here followes the funny part, as I was away from my keyboard for a minute, grub loaded the kernel that came with fedora test2, kernel-2.4.22-1.2061.nptl.
kudzu first asked me to remove my ethernet card, then told me to configure it. I added my card using redhat-config-network (it was in the list of cards now) and everything worked fine.
My question to you all is: How come I couldn't get the ethernet card to work at first, but installing the latest stable kernel fixed it?
Cheers

Re: Building a NAT router?
by Nicholas Yau
Hey,
What you need to do is write a script and run the script
in rc.local for startup
Let me give you some example, i think this will help you.
A proper configuration will look like below :
2 Network cards.
[192.168.1.1-eth0]<=connect to hub or crosslink to other pc=>PC
[ ]
[ ]
[ ]
[xx.xx.xx.xx-eth1]<=crosslink to DSL Modem=>[0000]
save this script in a file,
then run in rc.local
this command run where the remote pc and server are in same
subnet mask
if different subnet mask, you need to masquerade two different network
==================================================================
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
iptables -t nat -P POSTROUTING DROP
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.0/24 -d 0.0.0.0/0 MASQUERADE
