I re-installed FC5 from the distro and applied the FC5 updates. All
checked good.
I then changed the repos to point to FC6 development support. I ran yum
to install the latest kernel
yum -y update kern\*
then rebooted to 2128 kernel. All checked good.
I then used
yum --exclude=xorg-x11\* update
and when I had rcvd the 300+ hdrs, yum determined I had a number of
dependency issues.
I thought xorg-x11-server-Xorg.i386 would be a safe module to try. But
after applying the update, and then logging out, I found the X server
for my Nvidia card was not functional.
I tried to remove the module
rpm -e xorg-x11-server-Xorg.....
but many other modules depend on this module so that was not an option.
I then used the suggestion supplied by Paul (in a response to one of my
earlier posting), and located the original xorg-x11-server-Xorg....rpm
on my DVD distro disc. I then used
rpm -Uvh --oldpackage xorg-x11.....rpm
and that returned my server to the older version.
I tried 'startx' and that worked. So I am stuck at this level on FC6,
in that I must wait for an update to the Nvida driver.
Hope this helps others who may be seeing this test problem.

I can not get "ide=nodma" to be recognized at the boot of CD1, DVD, or
boot.iso my CD/DVD drive times out. Also for some reason NFS mounting the
images from another machine does not work either, and yes the firewall is
turned off on the NFS host.

yum differential updates
by Adam Pribyl
Is that anyhow possible to do differential updates with yum (mean only
download a diffs to packages that are in cache already)? Does anybody
ever think it would be valuable for future FC releases? Or am I searching
for bad keywords to find something about this topic, because I did not
find anything.

xorg updates bugger gui conf
by glenn
I have uploaded the series of xorg modules that are available for FC6 on
Apr 10. The yum update worked without a complaint.
BUT, when I logged out the X server would not restart due to a
misconfiguration.
The log indicates that 'nv' driver is not available.
It tried to load
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nv_drv.so
but the module ABI major version (8) does not match the server's version (1)
I have looked at the suggested wiki but it does not talk abe major ABI
version numbers and the highest level that is currently released is
X11R70 for nv. No mention of 8
My host is AMD 2000+
video is FX5200
monitor is KDS visual sensations
The system tried to reconfigure the server but to no avail.
How do I undo this latest update to be able again run my X server?
