[ANNOUNCEMENT] Red Hat Bugzilla 3.4 Upgrade Public Beta 2
by James Laska
I am sending this on behalf of Dave Lawrence and the bugzilla team at
Red Hat. Please forward this on to any appropriate lists that were
missed.
========
Greetings,
The Red Hat Bugzilla team is happy to announce the second public beta
release of the next version of Red Hat Bugzilla based on the upstream
3.4 code base. We have not yet received a lot of reports or feedback
from our last public beta, so please take some time to try out our
latest code release so that we will be sure that this is as stable as
possible when we deploy live.
Please test drive at:
https://partner-bugzilla.redhat.com
Over the years Red Hat has made substantial customizations to Bugzilla
to fit into the Engineering tool chain. Over time the upstream has
incorporated some of these customizations or solved them in different
ways. Upgrading reduces our customization footprint (and thus
maintenance) while bringing many bug fixes & enhancements.
The main area of focus for our public betas are stability. Functionality
that currently works in our 3.2 code base should continue to work as
expected in the new 3.4 release. These include various ajax
optimizations, needinfo actor support, frontpage.cgi, product browser,
several various UI enhancements, and of course the XMLRPC API.
Please feel free to point your various scripts and third party
applications that use the XMLRPC API at the test server to make sure
they continue to function properly.
There are numerous other changes behind the scenes that we haven't
listed. The goal is to make sure that functionality that people have
come to expect in 3.2 is possible in the new system.
There are also numerous new features/fixes that are part of the upstream
3.4 release. For more detailed information on what has changed since the
last release, check out release notes here:
https://partner-bugzilla.redhat.com/page.cgi?id=release-notes.html
The database is a recent snapshot of the live database so should be
useful for testing to make sure the information is displayed properly
and changeable. Also with a full snapshot it is possible to test for any
performance related issues. Email has been disabled so that unnecessary
spam is not sent out. So feel free to make changes to bugs to verify
proper working order.
We are asking for everyone to get involved as much as possible with
testing and feedback on the beta releases to help us make this the most
robust and stable release possible.
Please file any enhancement requests or bug reports in our current
Bugzilla system go here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Bugzilla&version=3.4
To see current list of 3.4 related bugs as well as blockers for release,
go here:

Thanks The Red Hat Bugzilla Team

I do that from time to time. A cherry pick koji builds regularly. But when
rawhide is frozen (or composes are broken) for a long (a week or two) time
then I do mass pulls of the latest stuff. I did that for the latest update
lull, but I see that rawhide is back now and will be using that again.

Fedora 12 QA retrospective - feedback needed
by James Laska
Greetings folks,
Whether you call it a post-mortem, retrospective or lessons learned ...
the end result is the same. I'd like to collect thoughts on how
good/bad of a job the QA group did in planning and testing the Fedora 12
release. In keeping with the release-wide retrospective from Fedora 11
[1], feel free to share any wishlist items as well.
I've started the discussion on the wiki at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_12_QA_Retrospective.
Adding your thoughts is easy ...
* Edit the wiki directly (instructions provided for ~anonymous
feedback)
* Or, reply to this mail (I'll collect feedback and add to the
wiki)
Over the next week, I plan to organize any feedback and discuss the
highlights during an upcoming QA team meeting. The goal will be to
prioritize the pain points and use as a basis for defining objectives
for Fedora 13.
Thanks for your feedback!
James

Cairo based C++ scenegraph library

Update Information:
This release is primarily a bugfix release. There was an overload resolution bug
with the virtual and non-virtual render() methods. Because of scoping rules, the
virtual methods were not seen by descendants of Renderable causing an infinite
recursion of the virtual method resulting in a segfault. To remedy this, two
new macros have been created: PAPYRUS_RENDERABLE() and PAPYRUS_DRAWABLE(). In
addition to adding the using directive to a class these macros provide some of
the other repetitive code used in each descendant of Renderable and Drawable,
including declaration of smart pointer types. Additionally, a small bug in
the shapes example program has been fixed.

papyrus-0.13.1-1.fc11 (FEDORA-2009-13114)
Cairo based C++ scenegraph library
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:

Fedora release criteria completely revised
by Adam Williamson
During FUDCon, we've been working on revising the Fedora release criteria.
John Poelstra had already fleshed out a structure and much of the final
content, and we've been revising and tweaking it in conjunction with QA
(myself, Will Woods and James Laska), release engineering (Jesse Keating),
anaconda team (especially Denise Dumas and Peter Jones) and desktop team
(Christopher Aillon and Matthias Clasen, who provided suggestions at an
earlier stage).
The new structure is based around a general page and specific pages for the
Fedora 13 Alpha, Beta and Final releases (which have been written
generically so they can easily be converted into pages for F14 and all
future releases just by copying and pasting). You can find the criteria
here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Release_Criteria
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_13_Alpha_Release_Criteria
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_13_Beta_Release_Criteria
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_13_Final_Release_Criteria
they should contain everything you need to know. We based most of the
criteria around testing that was already being carried out but with no
formal policy basis, with additional suggestions from the anaconda and
desktop teams.
We will follow these criteria for the Fedora 13 release process. So if you
can see any problems or potential trouble with any of this, please do reply
and let us know!
Desktop team - can you please let us know of any additional things that you
would expect to be working at each point during the release cycle? Note
that only things that *must* be working at each point should be listed on
these pages, not nice-to-haves. You must be able to commit to the idea
that, if any criterion on the page is not met, we would slip the release in
question.

New BugZapper Introduction
by Siddhesh Poyarekar
Hi,
I'm Siddhesh Poyarekar, a programmer from India. I have been using
Fedora for just about a year now and am interested in contributing to
the project in the best way that I can. My primary interest right now is
bug triaging/fixing. I am also looking forward to maintaining packages
that I use and are currently not in Fedora.
I am currently living in Pune, India and am working as a technical
support engineer. I have been using Linux at home (Debian mostly, as my
IRC nick would suggest :) ) for the past 6 years and have only begun
contributing code in the last 2-3 years.
I currently contribute to the ayttm[1] and libyahoo2[2] projects
upstream. I've also written antidialer[3], a broadband dialer for an ISP
service in India to get my mother to use Linux :)
My contact details are in my signature.
Regards,
Siddhesh
