test days live image creation guide

Hello, our guide for livecd creation used for test days [1] have been outdated (used F11 packages as a repository). I have rewritten it to use Rawhide packages for building, which is preferred for test days. I have also added some info what to do if rawhide repository is currently broken. Hope that helps. There is one issue which should be discussed: The default kickstart scripts remove fedora-logos package because of trademark issues with non-official spins. I have added it back for test days spins. Abobe Reader doesn't work with current Rawhide

FYI, with current rawhide, Adobe Reader (I tried 9.1.2 and 9.1.3) crashes on startup. I sent a crash dump to Adobe and suggested that they might want to try to get it fixed before Fedora 12 is released, but I'm not holding my breath. jik

move to openssl-1.0 and skype

It appears that move to openssl-1.0 means that available skype binaries will break on Fedora 12. $ ldd /usr/bin/skype | grep so.8 libssl.so.8 => /usr/lib/libssl.so.8 (0x00369000) libcrypto.so.8 => /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.8 (0x001fc000) I know that skype is binary-only and so on but in practical terms that would be a very serious trouble. Or maybe this is only indirect and openssl-1.0 will work too? No way to check that really in the current state of rawhide where attempts to update to any packages using openssl-1.0 fail on dependencies. If /usr/lib/libssl.so.8 is really required would be possible to have 'compat-openssl' for that? Michal

Install 12 Alpha Using USB Stick

I'm going to try installing Fedora 12 x86_64 using the install.img image taken from the DVD iso. I put it on a USB stick. I'll install this to a brand new hard 160 Gb drive. I need to upload a few more files to my other machine which will be needed on the new installation if it is successful. We will see what happens. Bob

F12 alpha needs network during install?

I installed F12 alpha from the DVD and had the feeling that the network is used during installation. So the installation was awful slow. For confirming this, I tried to install again after having de-activated the LAN chip in the BIOS, and, indeeded, the installation was cancelled (after the install partition had been formatted). Is there any option for installing F12 without accessing the LAN (I have DSL with 1 Megabit/sec)? F12-Alpha-Live does not work

Dear folks, I downloaded F12-Alpha-x86_64-Live-KDE.iso to test on an EMachines ET1161-05 machine and it fails to work. I get the login screen, I click enter to get into KDE and I get message: BoX appears with message: Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation. Okay I have to select Okay and it cycles me back to login screen :(, I wanted to test live install, but not possible at this time :( I see line the following lines too : grep : ]: no such file or directory sbin/real-init: line 487: [: missing ']' transferring control to /sbin/init I wanted to install Rawhide on this machine and keep up with the testing, but I guess I should try another option? F12-alpha: superblock always in future

I've just installed F12 alpha. My system clock is set to local time. F12 must think it's set to UTC. But when I try to boot, I end up in fsck land, with a last mount time in future error. If I then run fsck and reboot, I get the _same_ error, but now everything is 4 hours earlier! How can I get it to boot? sean

selinux error after starting vpn

I don't know much about selinux, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I got this error after starting a pptp vpn connection with NetworkManager: SELinux denied access requested by ip-up. It is not expected that this access is required by ip-up and this access may signal an intrusion attempt. It is also possible that the specific version or configuration of the application is causing it to require additional access. I was running f11-alpha + non-broken dependencies updated today. SEAlert seems to need pakagekit

On an up to date fc12 i686 system (I got there with preupdate from fc11) I occassionally get one of the stars on the panel that says that there is a selinux error (I am running in permissive mode). But when I open the dialog box I see that it complains that it can't find packagekit.frontend. Not very surprising since I don't have packagekit on my system. Shouldn't there have been a dependency problem? package-cleanup says that everything is okay.

Sectool Test Day Coming Up ...

Hello, friends! I would like to announce another Test Day. This Tuesday we want to look at Sectool (using Fit&Finish test day slot). Sectool is a security tool that can be used both as a security audit as well as a part of an intrusion detection system. So it looks like this is important tool and that is why we want you to come and help testing. There is a Sectool TestDay wiki page [1] with all important info.
