Installer freezes in beta releases
by A.J. Werkman`
With F18 Alpha I was able to startup and use the new anaconda UI.
But since the Beta TC1-TC3 cycle I always end up in a compleet freeze of
my system.
I boot up on a fysical system. I see the kernel boot then I see the
first text-screen telling me anaconda is starting. When the screen
switches to graphical display I can at first move my mouse cursor over
the screen, but after a few seconds, around the time when the keyboard
UI is shown the mouse cursor freezes, what means the compleet system is
frozen. I can not switch to a pseudo TTY, so I don't see any logs and
can't get to a shell to look around. So no possibility to find out what
is going on and find the source of the freeze.
I see this in a normal boot and in a vesa-boot, what makes me believe
this is not an issue of a graphical driver. Is this a correct conclusion?
Are there any suggestions here how to debug this?
Koos.

The point of accepting fewer things as blockers for alpha and beta is to
enable those to be released to help find bugs. And we don't want to hold
them up for things that are not things we want final to have, but that
don't interfere with testing too much.

I disagree that we want to look at lateness as a critera for blockers. (It
does get some consideration for the nice to have designation.) I think
the kinds of bugs that lateness would be a consideration for, are not the
kinds of bugs we want to classify as blockers.

----------------------------
* Tue Oct 09 2012 Jeffrey Ollie <jeff(a)ocjtech.us> - 11.0.0-0.6.rc1
- The Asterisk Development Team is pleased to announce the first release candidate
- of Asterisk 11.0.0. This release is available for immediate download at
- http://downloads.asterisk.org/pub/telephony/asterisk/releases
-
- All interested users of Asterisk are encouraged to participate in the
- Asterisk 11 testing process. Please report any issues found to the issue
- tracker, https://issues.asterisk.org/jira. It is also very useful to see
- successful test reports. Please post those to the asterisk-dev mailing list.
- All Asterisk users are invited to participate in the #asterisk-testing channel
- on IRC to work together in testing the many parts of Asterisk.
-
- Asterisk 11 is the next major release series of Asterisk. It will be a Long
- Term Support (LTS) release, similar to Asterisk 1.8. For more information about
- support time lines for Asterisk releases, see the Asterisk versions page:
- https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+Versions
-
- For important information regarding upgrading to Asterisk 11, please see the
- Asterisk wiki:
-
- https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Upgrading+to+Asterisk+11
-
- A short list of new features includes:
-
- * A new channel driver named chan_motif has been added which provides support
- for Google Talk and Jingle in a single channel driver. This new channel
- driver includes support for both audio and video, RFC2833 DTMF, all codecs
- supported by Asterisk, hold, unhold, and ringing notification. It is also
- compliant with the current Jingle specification, current Google Jingle
- specification, and the original Google Talk protocol.
-
- * Support for the WebSocket transport for chan_sip.
-
- * SIP peers can now be configured to support negotiation of ICE candidates.
-
- * The app_page application now no longer depends on DAHDI or app_meetme. It
- has been re-architected to use app_confbridge internally.
-
- * Hangup handlers can be attached to channels using the CHANNEL() function.
- Hangup handlers will run when the channel is hung up similar to the h
- extension; however, unlike an h extension, a hangup handler is associated with
- the actual channel and will execute anytime that channel is hung up,
- regardless of where it is in the dialplan.
-
- * Added pre-dial handlers for the Dial and Follow-Me applications. Pre-dial
- allows you to execute a dialplan subroutine on a channel before a call is
- placed but after the application performing a dial action is invoked. This
- means that the handlers are executed after the creation of the callee
- channels, but before any actions have been taken to actually dial the callee
- channels.
-
- * Log messages can now be easily associated with a certain call by looking at
- a new unique identifier, "Call Id". Call ids are attached to log messages for
- just about any case where it can be determined that the message is related
- to a particular call.
-
- * Introduced Named ACLs as a new way to define Access Control Lists (ACLs) in
- Asterisk. Unlike traditional ACLs defined in specific module configuration
- files, Named ACLs can be shared across multiple modules.
-
- * The Hangup Cause family of functions and dialplan applications allow for
- inspection of the hangup cause codes for each channel involved in a call.
- This allows a dialplan writer to determine, for each channel, who hung up and
- for what reason(s).
-
- * Two new functions have been added: FEATURE() and FEATUREMAP(). FEATURE()
- lets you set some of the configuration options from the general section
- of features.conf on a per-channel basis. FEATUREMAP() lets you customize
- the key sequence used to activate built-in features, such as blindxfer,
- and automon.
-
- * Support for DTLS-SRTP in chan_sip.
-
- * Support for named pickupgroups/callgroups, allowing any number of pickupgroups
- and callgroups to be defined for several channel drivers.
-
- * IPv6 Support for AMI, AGI, ExternalIVR, and the SIP Security Event Framework.
-
- More information about the new features can be found on the Asterisk wiki:
-
- https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Asterisk+11+Documentation
-
- A full list of all new features can also be found in the CHANGES file.

-

I believe I've already found the problem. On the host running
livecd-creator, I'm seeing AVCs like:
type=AVC msg=audit(1349382348.700:114): avc: denied { read } for
pid=2748 comm="groupadd" name="run" dev="loop0" ino=16053

tcontext=unconfined_u:object_r:var_t:s0 tclass=lnk_file
type=AVC msg=audit(1349382348.700:115): avc: denied { read } for
pid=2748 comm="groupadd" name="run" dev="loop0" ino=16053
scontext=unconfined_u:system_r:groupadd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023
tcontext=unconfined_u:object_r:var_t:s0 tclass=lnk_file
type=ADD_GROUP msg=audit(1349382351.086:116): pid=2748 uid=0 auid=10325
ses=2 subj=unconfined_u:system_r:groupadd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='op=adding
group to /etc/gshadow acct="utmp" exe="/usr/sbin/groupadd" hostname=?
addr=? terminal=pts/0 res=failed'
type=ADD_GROUP msg=audit(1349382351.087:117): pid=2748 uid=0 auid=10325

group to /etc/group acct="utmp" exe="/usr/sbin/groupadd" hostname=? addr=?

type=ADD_GROUP msg=audit(1349382351.087:118): pid=2748 uid=0 auid=10325
ses=2 subj=unconfined_u:system_r:groupadd_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 msg='op=
acct="utmp" exe="/usr/sbin/groupadd" hostname=? addr=? terminal=pts/0
res=failed'
Why it only affects the first run of livecd-creator, I do not understand.
It looks like I'm being bitten by
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=858373.

Review of Fedora 18 Release Criteria
by Tim Flink
As we're getting closer to the scheduled time for beta freeze, we'd
like to find out now if any of the current criteria or proposed criteria
changes are unreasonable to expect for beta. There may be more changes
for final as we get closer to that but I think that we're pretty close
to being done with the release requirements for beta.
The current (as of this writing) release criteria are available at:
- http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_18_Alpha_Release_Criteria
- http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_18_Beta_Release_Criteria
- http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_18_Final_Release_Criteria
There have been several changes to the release criterion lately (mostly
due to changes in anaconda's functionality) and there are still a
couple of modifications pending (identified at the end of this email
with links to the most recent versions of the proposal)
The questions we're interested in are:
- Is there anything in the current criteria or proposed revisions that
seem unreasonable?
- Are there any areas where the criteria are lacking?
Thanks,
Tim

### mediacheck (change)
" All release media must include a standalone memory test utility. A
boot menu option to launch this utility must be present and must work
correctly "
to:
"If there is an embedded checksum in the image, it must match. If there
is a related UI element displayed after booting the image, it must work
and display the correct result."

### network attached storage (pass for F18)
Remove for F18 (will be back in F19)
'The installer must be able to complete an installation using any
network-attached storage devices (e.g. iSCSI, FCoE, Fibre Channel)'
