Hey All,
A while ago, I could plug in a mouse and it would 'Just Work'. Now, I
can spend all day plugging in a mouse and it might work, but not often
enough to bother unplugging and plugging until it decides to work.
What gives?
Is there a bug about this, or am I the one to file it. (Bugzilla
searching scares me a little).

realise that if USB wasn't working for people there would be plenty of noise
about it? You need to understand that for the majority USB _is_ working and
so if you want any kind of sane answer then some diagnostics would help.

Not sure if its related, but any kernel higher than stock for FC7
seems to have issues with hotplug ie:
DVD's and pen drives dont automount (can manually mount though)
my USB serial dapter is a little flaky
also hibernate causes network devices tostop working on resume (and
cant shutdown from X - have to kill X and shutdown -r now)

personally I feel like fish slapping is far more succesful.

worked well when I started using F7.
also hibernate causes network devices tostop working on resume (and
cant shutdown from X - have to kill X and shutdown -r now)
I get this weird thing where hibernate just kicks in some times while
I'm actively doing things (which is the last time I expect hibernate to
kick in.)
Also, after a couple of suspend/resumes, my system can need a double lid
shut to get suspend to happen. The first time you close the lid, it
doesn't suspend, and then if you open and close the lid again then it
happens. Reboot the system and it all works as expected.

Yeah, I think I remember this. Something to do with USB drives not
working. From memory, this fixed USB drives and USB mice worked too for
a while, but I seem to have gone through a regression with regard to the
mouse.
USB drives seem to work fine for me at the moment. At least a quick
test saw the drive mount fine, so it seems to be limited to my mouse (a
Logitech laser mouse of some sort - M-BZ105A???) which works fine if
it's plugged in when I boot the system.

Right, I just updated to 2.6.22.5-75.fc7 and things are much better
Plugging my mouse into any of the back four usb ports sees it working
fine.
However, plugging into the side ports doesn't see it work, although my
USB drive works fine in the side ports.
Looking at hal-device-manager I notice that the four back usb ports are
listed as USB2 UHCI #[1-4], but the bottom side usb port is listed as
USB2 EHCI controller and the top one actually seems to be linked to USB
UHCI #4 (when I put in a USB drive, this is where it appears.)
And now, after a lot of plugging in and removing my mouse, it seems to
have given up recognizing it anymore.

I've been having issues with my USB camera not longer loading pictures
off it when I plug it in and actually with that one I think it is the
kernel. Since the kernel never hands it off to udev
rpm -q kernel

Although I have never opened a bug for it, I also have an issue with a
Bluetooth USB adapter that only works off of USB 1.1 hubs and not usb
2.0 hubs. I thought USB 1.1 devices were supposed to work fine in 2.0 ports.

Seriously, is this another $PROGRAM_OR_PERIPHERAL sucks! thread? Do
you realise that if USB wasn't working for people there would be
plenty of noise about it? You need to understand that for the majority
USB _is_ working and so if you want any kind of sane answer then some
diagnostics would help.
I'm hoping it isn't.
However, it's my experience that if I've got my USB stuff plugged in
when I boot the system it does just work. It's only when I plug it in
after starting the system (and more than likely after a suspend/resume).
I'm using a laptop and I rarely plug in a mouse and very rarely plug in
a USB drive. Most other people I know that I've set up to use fedora
most likely aren't running regular updates (so this issue isn't likely
to be an issue) or they have desktops where everything is just plugged
in all the time (so this isn't going to bite them). While this isn't a
huge sample size, it's not that hard to imagine either of these two
scenarios for the vast number of fedora users.
It seems to be a hot plug related issue. And it affect both my and my
wife's laptop (both from Dell).
