I have xfce installed on a system. How do I get Vncserver to use Xfce instead of the profoundly brain damaged Gnome 3 fallback?

Put this in ~/.vnc/xstartup:
unset SESSION_MANAGER exec ssh-agent /usr/bin/xfce4-session
Tim. */
I tried that, plus some variations. All i got from the remote is a black screen that does not respond to mouse clicks.

The following works under certain conditions. Insert it in ~/.vnc/xstartup just before the similar lines:
if [ -f /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc ]; then exec sh /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc fi
What conditions? Not sure but it helps if the user hasn't run a Gnome session.
