I, too, have a problem with this kernel. I read all of the other emails regarding this kernel, and I did wait for some time before expecting it to do anything...
I have also looked in the /etc/grub.conf file to make sure it works and everything is there!! I also had the same problem with the kernel-2.6.33-0.40*.
It gets past grub loader screen, but the all there is a lack screen with a flash hypen/ underline!

I see that, but the boot continues after a minute or 2. The disk access light is on continuoesly while it is paused. I am not sure why that would be though.

Look at your grub.conf file again and look for the line below..
initrd /initramfs-2.6.33-0.44.rc8.git0.fc13.x86_64.img
See if yours has initrd /boot/initramfs-2.6.33-0.44.rc8.git0.fc13.x86_64.img
If so, you may need to remove the /boot part of the path, especially if you have a separate /boot partition.
