What driver is used for this card? Does it work well with rawhide?
I'm thinking of getting a Dell e1405 with the intel card, just wondering how
well it works. Are the 1390 wireless opensource drivers too?

The GMA 950 is an Intel i945 chip with an additional 5 points of
marketing. It is fully supported in FC6.

Thanks, I read something back that it was using the i810 drivers, is that
still the case or are there new ones just for it?
How about the 1390 wireless? I know I can get them working just wondering
if there was an open source driver released for it or is it still closed
off by intel.

Thanks, I read something back that it was using the i810 drivers, is that
still the case or are there new ones just for it?
The i810 driver in X covers all Intel video chips from i810 to i965.

The intel ipw3945 card works ok (I have only tested on current FC5) and
was an option for purchase, but the 1390 card I believe is Broadcom
card, which should work with the right firmware, but I have not tested it.

Personally, I have very bad experience with Dell+Broadcom+FC. It seems
that whenever the bcm4400-card is initialized, there is a high chance of
a complete freeze. When I am connected to my normal 100MBit-lan, don't
use wlan at all and NetworkManager is active, the system usually freezes
once or twice each day. When trying to actually acces one of about 12
wireless networks available, it usually crashes several times without
establishing a connection. However, when a connection is established, it
is fast and rock-solid.
Every time the system crashes, the last information in /var/log/messages
is realted to the bcm-driver. I got a minipci-intel-card today, used it
for about seven hours, changed networks repeatetly and my laptop didn't
even freeze once. So I personally have no doubt that the bcm-chipset is
in fact the cause of my problems.
If I were smart enough to do kernel-debugging, I'd investigate. However,
I'm not. Sorry.
Actually, intel-drivers are supported by intel, while broadcom doesn't
care. So if you follow my advise and choose intel, you can even imagine
to do a political statement. ;-)

I'm using a Dell e1405 (with the 1440x900 monitor) and am reasonably
happy with it. I have had regular crashes of Firefox and Thunderbird.

laptop screen plus an external monitor) working, though the man page

desk or not. Anyone have such a set-up working?)
Both pm-hibernate and pm-suspend seem to work in the latest pre-FC6,
at least from the command line, and using Ethernet rather than WiFi.
(I've mostly been using Ethernet, since the WiFi requires some more
complicated installation, which is a hassle when doing frequent
kernel updates.)

Thanks for the info, I just got an E1505 with x1400 (ati) and not so sure
I'm going to like an ati card and linux. I was curious about size too and
wondering if the 14.1 is a lot smaller than the 15.4 or just a tad bit. I
know I could do the math, but visually makes a difference sometimes :)

14.1" is a nice size. I do most of my work with an external monitor,
but when I move from the desk the smaller screen is big enough to be
"almost full-size" but still makes for a laptop that is noticeable
lighter and smaller than most 15" laptops. The Dell E1404 is not
the lightest 14" laptop you can get, but you can get it for a good
price. (Search for one of the online coupon codes.)

I just got a Dell XPS M1210 and it's very light, has a pretty nice full
size keyboard, 1280x800 screen, and completely open source compatible.
If you want light but full featured, it's a good option. I love mine so
far...

On the indirect advice of the RH guys on this list, I did and I'm
happier for it. It's supposed to be better for battery life and when I
ordered, I didn't know how long it would be before nvidia shipped an
aiglx compatible driver. They ended up releasing a beta before I got the
M1210 and I was second guessing myself but after dealing with the nvidia
driver on my desktop, it's nice to have things just work with the
standard distribution. Compiz works very well for me and the size and
weight of the machine are perfect. It even plays quake3 at reasonable
frame rates.
It will be even nicer when the 3945 wireless driver is in the standard
kernel but the Linville kernels work fine. I am having a problem with
the snd_hda_intel driver not finding the sound card on 50% of my reboots
but I'm sure that will be fixed in the near term. I even got the camera
working with the ucv driver. It's a pretty nice laptop.

I'm being enticed to keep the E1505/ati by company A now. I called to
return so I can look at the 1405/1210 and company A will give me $390 back
to keep it........
Laptop works with LInux just fine. But I did want something smaller but now
that its about 1/3 off not sure I can pass it up :)
