cannot print, something wrong with cups server

Dear all,

I have not been able to print for some time already.

I get the following:


There was an error during the CUPS operation:
'client-error-bad-request'.

Turning on/off the printer does not help.  I have
attached the log with no help at all or suggestions to
hang in there, help is on the way :(

What should I do?

Maybe there are so many vague questions from Antonio, without any 
evidence that Antonio's tried to help himself, without necessary 
information that would help someone help Antonio, that people are 
learning to ignore Antonio.

- Bad permissions on /dev/bus/usb/*/* for a printer (should be user root,
  group lp, with permissions rw-rw---)
- Problems printing textfiles, others go through (paps problem).

No, that is not correct.  Group lp should have rw access, but this is
done using ACLs.  So the ownership and permissions should be root:root
rw-r----- but there should also be an ACL granting rw access for group
lp, and an ACL granting rw access for each console user.

The printer here is /dev/bus/usb/001/004, freshly booted after yesterday's
updates for x86_64:

printer to print again.

I disconnected it and removed printer from computer
using system-config-printer 

usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 3
usblp0: removed
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and
address 4
usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usblp0: Disabling reads from problematic bidirectional
printer
usblp0: USB Unidirectional printer dev 4 if 0 alt 1
proto 2 vid 0x03F0 pid 0x0304
usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 4
usblp0: removed

reconnected it

usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and

assumption: restarting cups or rebooting the machine has not helped.

what does
ls /etc/cups/certs /var/run/cups/certs
return?


did you use
touch /.autorelabel; reboot
or
restorecon -R -v PATHTOMOUNTPOINT
for your SELinux problem the other day?
I see a message from you at 22 Jan 2008 04:49:57 -0800, indicating you are 
still having SOME kind of SELinux problem.

could it be you need to
restorecon -R -v /var
???
i.e. you may NEED to redo the whole system with the
touch /.autorelabel; reboot

BTW I was curious so I looked some of this up, I do not necessarily have a 
great understanding of what is going on. use at your own risk.

No, I try to cancel printing jobs from Jan 10, and Jan
17 to no avail, I get the message:

stopped warning me of file_t or whatever it was.  I

I came across this problem today, and fixed it.  The affected
installations are: rawhide, Fedora 8 updates-testing, and Fedora 7
updates-testing.

In future, it would be useful to file a bug report so that I know
something is wrong.

Before I file a bug report, I report the issues to the
list so that others that have the same problem.  I
guessed I was the only one to have the problem and
just moved on, until finally it got to someone else. 
I would have gladly filed a bug report.  

Sorry but I got no reponses so I just waited for a
solution.
