New kernel = kernel-2.6.21-1.3116.fc7 (freezes)
Old Kernel = kernel-2.6.20-1.3104.fc7 (works)
What network card ?
SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet (built into motherboard)
That seems to come up with no error messages. Here is my messages from the new kernel..

Dave,
I have sense removed that kernel since it didn't boot, but wanted to follow up on if you knew of a problem or anything? I'll either file a bug, or wait until you put out a newer kernel version to see if it does the same thign and then report it?

The sis900 driver had a bug that was patched April 20. Unfortunately, the patch introduced a regression that was then patched April 26 -- one day after 2.6.21 was released. The second patch appears to fix it, according to user reports in the below referenced thread.

Ok,so hopefully the next release by Dave will have the fix.
Thanks for the heads up (how did you figure out or find that problem?).

I maintain a kernel network driver, and in that capacity I monitor kernel and netdev mailing list traffic. I remember seeing the sis900 thread.
Oh, Ok I see. Thanks for the heads up.

Fixed in CVS, will be in the next push to rawhide. (or grab it from my people.redhat.com page)

I have the same problem in a desktop. In this case the service where it freezes is gpm. When reading /var/log/messages there is no extra information.
The network card is a Silicon integrated System [SiS] SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet (rev 90)
