Dear Fedora Community
I am a contributor of the Loongson company and I am interested in becoming a Fedora contributor.
My FAS name is siyanteng, I have two years of community development experience in the linux kernel, during which I have submitted many patches; I have tried lfs; I have also tried openwrt and buildroot; I have a little bit of ability to port software to new architectures. I have about 5 hours a week for community work.
I am interested in running linux distributions on the new instruction set architecture. I have formed an Special interest group with three other developers, Sun Haiyong, Wu Xiaotian, and Shi Pujin. We are going to port Fedora for LoongArch, and Sun Haiyong has created <https://github.com/fedora-remix- loongarch> . We now have LoongArch versions of LiveCD for LXDE Desktop environment, LiveCD for Mate Desktop environment, and LiveCD for WorkStation. Although there are more and more packages that can be run on LoongArch, we are not sure what to do next. We seem to be missing a mentor >_<.
The only thing we can think of right now is to add a LoongArch entry to the https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures under "Alternative Architectures". But when I try to edit the wiki, I am told: my account must have at least one non cla* group to be able to login and edit. Could I get help here? :)
Sincerely, Yanteng Si
Dear Yanteng,
Welcome to the community!
It's great to hear about loongarch. I think the best place to discuss loongarch is the main community development mailing list:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/
That will be the starting point, and folks there will be able to discuss what the next steps here would be to make loongarch a recognised alternative architecture for the community.
We do have a "welcome to Fedora" system in place, but given that you already have quite a bit of FOSS experience, I don't know if you need to follow that. Just getting started with a discussion on the -devel list would probably be a good enough starting point for you? Please let us know what you think will be most helpful.
