I always send the mail from my gmail account, but for some reason never see my own mails to the list.

Just a quick reminder -- make sure when you send email to the list,
you're using the email From: address that the list expects. If you
really need another one added to the whitelist, I can take care of
that.

D&B Deposit
by Paul W. Frields
I got word from Jacqueline Scott at Dave & Buster's that our deposit
has been applied -- thanks to Chris and Max picking up a ball that I
accidentally dropped on my way to UTOSC. Next week will be a little
less frenetic where I'm sitting -- well, maybe after Tuesday at
least. ;-)

Planning meetings between now + FUDCon
by Mel Chua
Paul and I both have a Travel Schedule of AWESOME between now and
FUDCon. (Or Travel Schedule of DOOM, as some have phrased it; I'm still
in the "Oh boy, oh boy, TRAVEL!!!" phase of my life, so I stand by my
choice of adjective.)
Our schedules match in such a way that one or both of us will be around
to stay atop stuff on any given week, *except* for 11/12, when Paul will
be in Australia and I will be in Singapore. Chris, would you be able to
chair that one and drive the FUDBus for the week?
For reference/transparency-fu, our remaining regular meetings:
10/15: Paul and I will be hanging out with Max + Greg + Karsten in
Raleigh this week, so FUDCon planning should solidify considerably
(though I think we're already doing very well).
10/22: life as normal. (Note that Mel will be in Toronto starting 10/23,
if local stuff is needed.)
10/29: Mel at our lovely host site of Seneca, with Chris for FSOSS;
Chris, want to sit next to each other for that week's FUDCon IRC
meeting? I'll come find you wherever you are on campus then.
11/5: life as normal.
11/12: Aforementioned Week of Traveleage, with Paul in Australia and Mel
in Singapore. Need someone else to drive this week.
11/19: life as normal.
11/26: life as normal.
12/3: life as normal. or as close to normal as it gets the week before a
FUDCon, anyway.
Just a fyi,

FUDCon Sunday Lunch
by Chris Tyler
Ok, looks like the lunch decision just got a tiny bit harder.
Apparently in-building food is not available on Sunday -- they've been
staying closed on the weekend due to lack of demand. They're willing to
open for a group our size, but I doubt they'll run their full selection.
Monday is no problem.
This means that the nearest food on Sunday is in a foodcourt a short
walk away -- not as convenient (and more disruptive to hacking) than if
the food was available in the same building.
Maybe we should plan a cheap lunch on the Sunday and let people do their
own on Monday? Looks like we could do 2 slices of pizza and a pop for
under $4/head (

Apologies
by Paul W. Frields
There was a FUDCon planning meeting scheduled ~45 minutes ago, and I
apologize for completely missing it. Internet connectivity at UTOSC
is good when you can get it. But a particular problem with the way
the Cisco wifi routers onsite interpret unknown ESSIDs (think: "Army
of flying monkeys -- ATTACK! FLOOD! BWHAHAHAHA!") means it can be
difficult to get a connection at times.
Let's agree to round up next week, and again, sorry everyone.

Want to hold a panel session
by Toshio Kuratomi
Hi all,
I would like to hold a panel session at the Toronto FUDCon. The session
would be:
"""
Developers and sys admins: How to working together
Unlike most IT shops, Fedora Infrastructure has as many programmers as
system administrators. Find out what the differences are in each sides'
needs. Learn how we work together even when we have conflicting needs.
Prod us with your burning questions and watch us squirm to figure out
better ways to deal with our conflicts in the future.
"""
I've started talking to people and I should have no trouble getting
enough interested panelists but there are some logistics questions that
I realized I should raise.
* Can we have multiple microphones for this? We would need several mics
for the panelists and at least one that the moderator can move around
the room with as he takes questions.
* Can we have a place on the pre-set schedule? I'd hate to get the
panelists excited and prepared to do this and then not be able to once
we get to FudCon.
* Any other equipment or logistics needs I haven't thought of?
Thanks,
-Toshio

Status: telling LUGs about FUDCon
by Mel Chua
1. mchua to report status of spreading information to LUGs about FUDCon
The short: we have LUG liasons who we can ping to poke said LUGs about
proposals but no proposals per se yet. Relevant ticket is
https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/18.
Copying the wonderful folks who've been doing the LUG Liasoning on this
email. Karlie, Charley, Jon - I grabbed Paul's FUDCon announcement and
re-spun it into a "hey LUGs, please send your ideas" form letter, which
is at https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/18#comment:7 and
also posted below.
Could you copy-paste that into an email and forward it (with any
modifications you want) to the LUGs you are in contact with, and Cc
fudcon-planning(a)lists.fedoraproject.org so we know who's got the letter?
Thanks!

FUDCon Toronto 2009, the upcoming Fedora Users and Developers Conference
in Toronto from December 5-7, needs your help, o wonderful local LUGs!
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Toronto_2009
Fedora is a popular Linux distribution; our mission is about the rapid
progress of Free and Open Source software. FUDCon is where our community
gets together and simultaneously celebrates and sprints towards the
future - and we'd love it if you could join us and help us figure out
what that future should look like. Namely, we'd love to have
participation from local LUGs, particularly with turning FUDCon into an
opportunity to introduce folks from and near Toronto to open source -
and we need ideas on how to do just that.
We will have some special “getting-started” user sessions on Saturday,
December 5, as well as our always-popular developer tracks and hackfests
throughout the length fo the conference. We’re also planning some sort
of refereed or pre-sorted content, in addition to BarCamp? format talks,
so everyone will be able to find something they like. Some of our ideas
are at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Toronto_2009#Technical_sessions_-_Sa...,
but we would love to hear yours - how would you shape the schedule?
Please give us ideas for sessions and hackfests you’d like to see!
Outreach for kids? A gaming corner? An artists' studio with Inkscape
tutorials running? A keysigning party? A session on marketing for open
source projects? Invite a local high school newspaper to cover a "how
did you get started with open source?" storytelling circle? A helpdesk
where we can pool together and tackle the weirdest setups, questions,
and bugs you've always wanted to work out? A lunch gathering on
education? An installfest? A test day? A kernel hacking party?
We need your ideas! Email the fudcon-planning
(https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/fudcon-planning) list
with your thoughts on what would make this FUDCon *really* cool, and how
we could use it to help you build your presence and momentum here in
Ontario - we're looking forward to hearing your brainstorms and seeing
you all in December!
Thanks muchly,
--Mel Chua on behalf of the FUDCon Planning Crew
PS: If you can come, pre-registration is already open on the wiki
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Toronto_2009#Pre-registration),
where you can find loads of other information and maps as well.
Pre-registering gets you a couple extras, like lunch each day, a bit of
schwag, and a pass to FUDPub. But FUDCon is absolutely free to attend,
whether you pre-register or not, and FUDCon is open to everyone, since
time immemorial. (Or at least since we started having them years ago.)
