Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Jason Shive

Hello,

My name is Jason Shive and I am interested in helping out on the  
Fedora project on the Infrastructure team. I have a bit more than 5  
years of System Administration in a large, enterprise environment.  
Currently it stands at around 2000 servers, mostly RHEL, with some  
Solaris and HPUX scattered about. My skills are mostly related to  
troubleshooting. I lead the problem resolution team at the office  
responsible for Break/Fix of the environment. I enjoy troubleshooting  
issues and always look forwards to the head-scratchers that seem to  
cause the greatest problems. I've been doing administration in this  
environment for more than 5 years, but have yet to do anything I could  
consider a specialization. I've been using linux, specifically Red Hat  
Linux since college and always enjoyed messing around with it. My  
current focus is virtualization with RHEV and have been focused on  
that as well as cloud services for a while. I'm also into programming  
language, though I can not program much with many of them. I'm  
currently using all the perl, php, and python I can work into my daily  
needs. I use whatever language I can (including shell scripting) to  
automate whatever I can for my team at work. I enjoy automating tasks  
almost as much as I enjoy pizza, and I really like pizza.

As far as what I can do for the team, I don't really know a whole lot  
about what the team does. I'm fairly comfortable managing systems  
(day-to-day tasks or processing changes to those systems),  
troubleshooting issue, testing fixes, or pretty much whatever use I  
can be. Lately I've been hanging out in the #fedora channel (Nick:  
Klainn) trying to answer the questions that are asked. I'm willing to  
help out as needed and can dedicate time to projects I may be  
assigned. I've never been great at random introductions via email, so  
if there's something specific you'd like to know, just ask.

Cool I think there is a ticket about how we might leverage the cloud
although I think we're limited on resources (people and machines). I'm
relatively new to the group but I do know there is still a lively
discussion bouncing around the group.

There is also a discussion about an infrastructure

I'm not too familiar with the way you all work and your ticketing system
yet. That'll all before more clear as I get more exposure, if there's need
for me in the group. Looks like quite a bit of backlog, I'd probably spend
my first few weeks or more attempting to clean up what I can, hopefully not
all the cases have gone cold! Looks like there's some things I could run
with, someone would require a short ramp up though, nothing major.

I'm down with the idea of cloud computing, specifically platform as a
service and infrastructure as a service. I admit I don't know a whole lot
else about the actual applications running 'cloud services' (condor,
cloudforms, etc) but I got a lot of use out of the Virtualization part of
the Cloud Power Training at the last Red Hat summit. It was good times. I
think for certain uses in certain places the cloud could be a great tool.
I'm currently working on a platform as a service offering for the test lab
at the office. It would be great to just throw down some template images and
let customers spin up instances to test their software without needing to go
through all the hoops we currently do.

I am no Coding Samurai. I'm at best a citizen soldier right now, but I love
to dig through code and make stuff work like I need/want it too. I'm sadly
not pro status on any language, but I can do needful when needful is needed.
I'll gladly do some documentation, let me know.

Something on my list after I finish my current tickets is to continue
documenting the FAS code. Maybe that's a good place to start for you?

Is there something I'm missing that I needed to do with this public ssh key? I
uploaded mine but wasn't able to connect. I've since re-created the key a few
times and still do not even get prompted for my passkey. Do we need to set a comment like
with git of our fsa account name or something?

well, what are you trying to do with the key? ;) 

It should provide you access to bastion.fedoraproject.org and many
other machines if you are in the fi-apprentice group. 

Drop by on irc and we can troubleshoot.

I attempt to ssh to bastion.fedoraproject.org and get only the host closed connection
message. I can ssh to fedoraproject.org successfully but then can not go anywhere else. On
fp.org I see the ssh key in my .ssh folder and it's the one I am using on my local
machine, but must be doing something wrong to get to bastion.

If you have made too many attempts you might be blocked by
denyhosts. :( 

What IP are you connecting from? 

feel free to just let us know on irc and we can see if it's in
denyhosts and clear it.

Kevin is the "main person with the keys." Please check up with him in
