Hi William,
Are you able to work on that Openbox post over the weekend? We are hoping to publish it next week if you can help figure out the instructions to make it work properly on a fresh install.
Hi Paul I have doble checked and the install instructions work fine but GDM in Fedora Workstation do not show the entry for openbox after the install, the Plasma sddm and light in the Mate spin show the option to login with openbox.
Do you think ins fine to provide the instruction to swich from GDM to LightDM in the post?

You should show how to add the entry in gdm:
Create the file: /usr/share/xsessions/openbox.desktop With the following content:
[Desktop Entry] Name=Openbox Comment=Log in using the Openbox window manager (without a session manager) Exec=/usr/bin/openbox-session TryExec=/usr/bin/openbox-session Icon=openbox Type=Application
This is the openbox.desktop file used by LightDM (Cinnamon Spin). Br,

Hi Eduard,
The file appears to be present in the openbox RPM. I can only guess that you have to kill GDM or reboot to get it to show up, and I hadn't done that.

Hi William,
This was the exact problem I ran into, but it no longer seems to be a problem now. I tried on both F26 and F27 and now Openbox shows up for me on the GDM screen, *after* I kill GDM (or reboot). So you may want to advise about that, and then go ahead.
Don't advise switching from GDM to LightDM, doesn't appear necessary.

I did find out during my reading that openbox is basically unmaintained now. You should definitely mention that in the article up front. I don't think the Magazine should cover dead technology without warning users.

I made the updates to the post, please let me know if you have any aditional comment, even if openbox in not a very active project is one of the classic desktop enviroments in Linux and I think a good started guide can help people to use it in fedora.

William, I've seen the updates and we will get to publishing this. The impending release interrupted our plans but I believe we'll end up publishing this around the week after next.

William, I see that instead of adding your updates, you overwrote all my previous editing. This makes it much harder for me to finish and publish the article. Can you revert to my last revision, please, and then just add your new material, instead? Thank you in advance.

Hi William,
Is there a .desktop file in /usr/share/xsession for Openbox? I found instructions for this at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2920
I just tried it myself and after rebooting the computer an option for Openbox now shows in the GDM Desktop Session list. Hope this helps.

There is -- for some reason it wasn't working for me, and then it did. I suspect I failed to reboot. So we'll make sure the article reflects the right process.
