I looked at the openpower site and it doesn't look like there are many
systems yet. Tyan has some eval boxes. I also saw Raptor Engineering's
proposed power8 motherboard.
Unfortunately the power8 systems are really overkill for what I need, and
I'll need to save a bit before I can afford one. What I really want is
free software for the firmware and ECC memory. But right now the only to
get this is to buy fairly old systems that libreboot will run on. Those
systems are less expensive, but have a lot less power and buying them
still rewards Intel and AMD for making it impossible to use completely
free firmware on their current processors.
Probably I'll keep an eye on the market and when I can afford it, get
Raptor's board.
