FC3rc5/rawhide: X broken on i810
by Dave Mack
I installed FC3rc5 on an elderly box with i810 graphics and the desktop
is seriously broken - nothing redraws correctly, the background shows
through xterms, resizing makes windows disappear etc. Thought it might
be gnome/metacity gone insane, but KDE is just as a bad, so it looks
like it has to be X. Upgrading to rawhide didn't change anything.
Is anyone else seeing this?

CDROM optimizations? Udev ?
by Kim Lux
Could I ask some people to run hdparm on their cdroms and report their
findings to the list ?
ie: $/sbin/hdparm /dev/hdc (typically, some CDROMs might mount
elsewhere.)
We've found some CDROMs are not optimized to use 32 bit access and with
the irq still masked. This might result in poor performance when using
them as CD Burners or as a ripping source.
Thanks.

can anyone offer me some advice for mp3 support in fc3t3? I imagine the

Subversion support in Emacs?
by D. D. Brierton
I haven't had a chance to test out any of the test or RC releases of FC3
yet. I'm also unsure of how patched the version of Emacs is. Does FC3
come with any Emacs support for Subversion out of the box? As subversion
now seems to be the FC revision control tool of choice it would be nice
if Emacs had support for it as part of the core distribution.
I know that Emacs CVS now includes vc-svn.el which is an svn backend for
vc, and the version in Emacs CVS seems to be an amalgam or superset of
the version of vc-svn.el which was part of Subversion. That would seem
to be the ideal candidate for inclusion; perhaps it already is included?
There is also psvn.el which is an svn version of pcl-cvs. Whilst
searching around I noticed that ALTLinux provide an emacs-subversion RPM
(http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/1486585/com/emacs-subversion-...) which includes psvn.el, vc-svn.el and a site-start.d/subversion.el. Perhaps something like that could be included with future version of FC if that functionality is not already included in either the Emacs or the Subversion RPM.
Best, Darren

Still no sound on laptop
by Darek Borkowski
I added some comments about that problem in bug # 136082.
Hope this help. But I doubt to hear something with FC3 final (maybe
later after some updates).

Gnome cannot start continued
by Darek Borkowski
Hi,
after daily upgrade Gnome does not start. Even deleting whole
~/.gnome2 direstory does not help. I have to use KDE, the only working
WM.
I did some testing.
The effects of strace form "failsafe session" as well as from "startx"
from runlevel 3 and content of .gnome2 directory are at:
http://bednar.prv.pl/debug/strace-FC3t2devel/
The problem started when I was logout from gnome with savine session
enabed and one crashed gnome application somewhere in background. I
killed it before, but when logging out I saw contours of some window.
Every other windows were closed before logout so I was sure I'm
saveing clean session (i.e. with no running apps).
How to start Gnome now?

Clean install OK but upgrade not
by Darek Borkowski
Hi,
can somebody explain me why the upgraded system can make problems
while clean installed not.
As far as I know the files are repalced during upgrade (rpm -U *.rpm),
so everythink should go well but it go wrong (examples: ALSA problems
with intel85x chipset in my laptop, giant problems with
gnomes-session, etc).
Why upgrade can make things so broken?
And how it is that KDE does not present such problems at WM start, as
Gnome presents. (KDE starts ALWAYS, even after system crash, files
lost, upgrade)?
