1440x900 supported on FC3
by Timothy Sandel
I've got an HP zd7310 laptop on order which comes with a 17" widesreen
display that does 1440x900 and nVidia Geforce Go5200 and was wondering
if FC3 will support that kind of video setup.
It is shipped with WinXP Home. Gasp!
Thanks,
Timothy

Destroyed x.org
by Andrew Choens
Ok, here's a question for all you gurus out there. I have a problem,
and I know how to fix it, but I can't get to a point where I can fix
it. I got frustrated, and decided to beg for help.
I used yum to update a FC3 T2 system to a T3 system. All went well
enough I thought. I noticed that I had installed a new kernel, so I
decided to reboot to see how it worked. Well, the upgrade has trashed
X. I thought, no problem, I'll just disable rhgb, and boot, X will go
a little crazy, but I'll go to tty2 and roll back X, and then ask here
why the new X messed me up.
So, I boot to GRUB and remove rhgb from the kernel arguments. But, rhgb
is still used, and everytime it screws up. By the time the system is
booted, X is respanwing like crazy and you can't log in even at
non-graphical screen. I go to tty2 and type in root and it blinks and
it asks me for my login again. No opportunity to enter my password.
So, from the grub screen how can I disable rhgb and boot to 3 instead of
5? I've thought about using the rescue cd to edit my grub.conf file,
but I don't understand why editing the kernel args at boot doesn't
work.
I would appreciate any ideas on how I can eliminate X from my boot
sequence long enough to roll-back X.
BTW: does anyone have any idea why X.org 6.8.1-12 trashed my
installation?
Thanks

Change to init level 3 (telinit 3), then:
Check and correct the permissions of (or maybe delete) the following in
/tmp
.ICE-unix/*
.X0-lock
.X11-unix
orbit-*
gconfd-*
In past releases, I've usually deleted .ICE-unix, .X0-lock, and
.X11-unix, but I haven't had the problem in Fedora.
Also check/correct the permissions of the /tmp directory itself. Mine
is
drwxrwxrwt 19 root root 8192 Nov 3 10:09 /tmp

Gnome won't fire up for non root users
by Martin Hanneghan
All of a sudden, Gnome has stopped working if I attempt to login to
FC3 test 3 as a non-root user. Even if I create a new user, they can't
login. I've tried deleting all the .gnome related files and
directories for the user but to no avail.
Any suggestions how to fix this (or why it happened?) - I'm guessing
some permissions have got corrupted somewhere since root still has a
Gnome graphical desktop.
Non-graphical login works fine (e.g. failsafe term or logging into a
console window outside of X). XFCE works fine but KDE is bombing out
too saying the session lasted less than 10 seconds...

Renaming a MBOX-Folder in evolution-1.4.6-2
by Joachim Backes
Renaming a MBOX-Mailfolder creates a new folder and copies the contents
of the old folder to the new one. But the old folder remains in the
local folders, and trying to open it produces an error popup (the old
folder name was TMW). Has somebody made similar experiences?
Error while 'Opening folder file:///<hoime>/evolution/local/MATLAB/subfolders/TMW':
Folder `<home>/evolution/local/MATLAB/subfolders/TMW/mbox' does not exist.

ipw2100 drivers?
by John Burton
Greetings again,
Originally on this Compaq nx7000 laptop, I had PClinuxOS installed. It
had an ipw2100 driver for centrino wireless (as well as an ntfs driver).
I installed FC3-RC1 on it last week. Slowly getting everything figured
out (will wait until I get the FC3 release before bothering with NTFS).
One question I had, will there be an ipw2100 wireless network driver
included in the FC3 final release?
