fc6pre PXE kickstart install: minor ipv6 problem
by Mogens Kjaer
Getting ready for FC6, I'm trying to set up
a kickstart installation of FC6Pre via PXE boot, NFS install.
It works, however, it takes nearly a minute to obtain
an IP number. By switching console I can see that it is
trying to get an IPv6 number as well as an IPv4 number.
This takes nearly a minute before it realizes that this isn't
available. Then it goes on with the installation, fetching
the kickstart file by http, etc.
Is there any boot options I can specify so that it won't
waste time looking for an IPv6 number?
Mogens

Have reached a point where I feel p***ed
by Michael Schwendt
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/197033
It has been enough time to downgrade the driver or request more feedback
from users who are hit hard by this. But what has happened instead? The
"bugzilla > /dev/null" syndrom again. Zero interest in avoiding this
serious regression compared with FC5.
I'm not impressed. Actually, I'm in really bad mood, and that is the
case seldomly.
Thanks for listening.

Error inserting acpi_cpufreq no acpi_cpufreq in /lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2747.fc6/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq
by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
When I start the machine, I get to see the message that there was an error inserting
acpi_cpufreq in /lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2747.fc6/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq
It says that there is no acpi-cpufreq.ko, and I looked for it and it is there
[olivares@localhost cpufreq]$ cd ~
[olivares@localhost ~]$ cd /lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2747.fc6/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq
[olivares@localhost cpufreq]$ ls
acpi-cpufreq.ko p4-clockmod.ko
[olivares@localhost cpufreq]$
Is this a bug?

Antonio

Ever since FC3 this error has popped up at one point or another during
development. During the FC6 development the bug is:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201832
It looks like it has popped up again.

I give, What in the world is the trick with AIGLX?
by Oldman
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Off and on I have tried starting compiz using the various "spells"
found here, and there, with little to no success. I surely thought that
by now I'd get it working.
The recommended menu starting system returns with a non informative
warning that compiz could not start. Running the "desktop-effects"
provides a little useless information in the form:
compiz: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz: No managable screens found on display :0.0
Well I don't know what GLXFBConfig is or how to set it and googling did
no good in that regard. I did try to change the default depth to 16
colors but there was no GLXFBConfig for that depth either and likewise
setting the screensize to 1024x768 (from 1280x1024) did not help either.
I should have explained that I have a 1.5Ghz lintel box with an nVidia
5600 series graphics card. I have a list of cards that supposedly work
with AIGLX and this card is on it.
The only other thing that might be involved is an entry in Xorg.0.log"
[scott@ipmyownlilip ~]$ grep DRI /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) Loading extension XFree86-DRI
(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
Two other items of interest are that I downloaded a live CD that has
AIGLX and other features (including the latest nVidia driver) and that
does work well, though I was not too impressed with other facets of
Sabayon linux. The other is that an attempt to use livna's kmod-nvidia
module was a disaster, restarting X every time I accessed glx
(screensavers and glxgears). AFAIK this module is not necessary (or
encouraged for that matter) to use AIGLX. enclosed is my xorg.conf and
xorg.0.log in case that is any help.

Fedora Core 5 Test Update: kernel-2.6.18-1.2189.fc5
by Dave Jones
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2006-995
2006-09-25
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 5
Name : kernel
Version : 2.6.18
Release : 1.2189.fc5
Summary : The Linux kernel (the core of the Linux operating system)
Description :
The kernel package contains the Linux kernel (vmlinuz), the core of any
Linux operating system. The kernel handles the basic functions
of the operating system: memory allocation, process allocation, device
input and output, etc.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
This large update rebases the kernel to the latest stable
upstream release, 2.6.18, which fixes a huge number of bugs,
in over 6000 independant changes.
In the last few updates, some users upgrading from FC4->FC5
have reported that installing a kernel update has left their
systems unbootable. If you have been affected by this
problem please check you only have one version of
device-mapper installed
See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=207474
for further details.

konqueror does not run from menu, and other thing
by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
I am back to testing. I have updated my machine to
latest 20061006 updates. Now konqueror does not run
from menu, both KDE and GNOME had to invoke
terminal to run konqueror
[olivares@localhost ~]$ konqueror &
[1] 3006
[olivares@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora Core release 5.92 (FC6 Test3)
I also got a fatal module error when booting newer
kernel
[olivares@localhost ~]$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-1.2741.fc6 #1 SMP
Wed Oct 4 20:16:33 EDT 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
[olivares@localhost ~]$
acpi_cpufreq or something like this was module invalid
or not found. I have checked system log but cannot
find the message. Will get back on Monday to try
fixes or find out that problem has been fixed.
Regards,
Antonio

Default home page - Impressive!
by Jim Cornette
I just noticed the default home page. I like the looks of it and the
links and categories seem to be what would help a user find helpful
material.
Great job!
