[SECURITY] Fedora Core 4 Test Update: rsync-2.6.8-1.FC4
by Jay Fenlason
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2006-601
2006-05-27
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 4
Name : rsync
Version : 2.6.8
Release : 1.FC4
Summary : A program for synchronizing files over a network.
Description :
Rsync uses a reliable algorithm to bring remote and host files into
sync very quickly. Rsync is fast because it just sends the differences
in the files over the network instead of sending the complete
files. Rsync is often used as a very powerful mirroring process or
just as a more capable replacement for the rcp command. A technical
report which describes the rsync algorithm is included in this
package.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
* Fri May 26 2006 Jay Fenlason <fenlason(a)redhat.com> 2.6.8-1.FC4
- Upgrade to 2.6.8, which closes
bz#190208 CVE-2006-2083 rsync buffer overflow issue
by switching from my xattrs patch to the upstream one.
This also obsoletes the -address patch.

Fedora Core 5 Test Update: spamassassin-3.1.2-1.fc5
by Warren Togami
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fedora Test Update Notification
FEDORA-2006-598
2006-05-27
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Product : Fedora Core 5
Name : spamassassin
Version : 3.1.2
Release : 1.fc5
Summary : Spam filter for email which can be invoked from mail delivery agents.
Description :
SpamAssassin provides you with a way to reduce if not completely eliminate
Unsolicited Commercial Email (SPAM) from your incoming email. It can
be invoked by a MDA such as sendmail or postfix, or can be called from
a procmail script, .forward file, etc. It uses a genetic-algorithm
evolved scoring system to identify messages which look spammy, then
adds headers to the message so they can be filtered by the user's mail
reading software. This distribution includes the spamd/spamc components
which create a server that considerably speeds processing of mail.
To enable spamassassin, if you are receiving mail locally, simply add
this line to your ~/.procmailrc:
INCLUDERC=/etc/mail/spamassassin/spamassassin-default.rc
To filter spam for all users, add that line to /etc/procmailrc
(creating if necessary).

Any dual head xorg radeon users out there in fedora test land?
by Paul Johnson
In the FC5 release, many of us experience random system freezes when
using the xorg radeon driver on dual head systems. There is a bug
report about it in the Redhat Bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=185944
I am curious to know if the xorg--x11drv-ati package from the FC
development servers fixes that. In the bug report, there is a
suggestion that a newer ati driver will work, but the version referred
to in that post is no longer in the development server. Now there is
a newer version that won't install into FC5 without also upgrading the
X server itself.
Supposing the dual head problem is fixed in the development branch, I
wonder if it is safe to take just the 2 packages, xorg-x11-drv-ati and
xorg-x11-server-Xorg into an FC5 system. I've checked and the yum/RPM
system will let me do it. But I also worry that a lot of other stuff
will break.
