Warning: evo 2.8 is broken for my Exchange access
by William John Murray
Just a heads-up that the 2.8 Evolution which FC6 is shipping
is badly broken for Exchange access - it downloads hundreds of Mb of
public folders from my employers public folders every sinfle time it starts.
No doubt it is configuration dependent, but I know other people had
similar problems with evo 2.6.X until 2.6.3 fixed it.

Can anyone else confirm this bug? Or am I alone?

Keeping the Devel Mirrors Up-to-Date
by Paul Dickson
Has anyone done any tracking of the fedora-development mirrors to see how
well they've been at keeping up-to-date?
I just did a "yum list extras" and it listed items that were listed in
Wednesday's rawhide report. At times, I've even resorted to tcpdumping
yum's run to capture the requested host names so I could assign them
127.0.0.2 in my /etc/hosts file, just so I could apply development
updates that were several days old.

FC6T3 x86-64 booting issue
by Tomas Lanik
hi,
I am unable to boot FC6T3 x86-64... on (AMD64X2, 4GB DDR2, SATA II, Asus
M2N-E)
The initrd image is missing in /boot directory.
I have tried to fix the issue by creating initrd image as suggested by
alan <alan clueserver org>:

On Tue, 19 Sep 2006, sean wrote:
I've been unsuccessful in installing t3 from dvd on a standard intel

( not root ) that's lvm. I asssume this will all be fixed for t4.
Has anybody figured out how to install before then?
Yep. I posted it earlier.
After you do the install, boot with the "rescue option" on the install dvd.
When you get a prompt:
chroot /mnt/sysmount
cd /boot
mkinitrd --image-version --nocompress initrd `uname -r`
Then add this line to the /etc/grub.conf entry:
initrd /initrd-<kernelversion>
save, sync and reboot.

with following result:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
root(hd0,0)
FileSystem Type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.17-1.2630.fc6 ro root=/dev/basevg/rootlv rhgb quiet

initrd /initrd-2.6.17-1.2630.fc6

Any ideas how to make FC6T3 boot?

printer config?
by Tom Horsley
Tried the new system-config-printer in FC6t3 for the first time and was surprised to find
the 65,722 HP printer models gone, and instead I was just offered a handful of PCL
drivers. I picked one that sorta worked, but the alignment needs mucho tweaking
to actually make the test page fit on the paper. (This is an old, but reliable, LaserJet 6L).
The alignmargins script from the downloads at http://linuxprinting.org/download/printing/
is pretty good at doing that kind of tweaking, but if you are gonna drastically
cut back on the number of custom drivers provided, it would sure be nice if such
a tweaking tool were built into system-config-printer instead of needing vast
web searches to locate one :-).
(It has always kinda irritated me that printer setup scripts offer to print a test page
for you, but provide no advice about how to proceed if the test doesn't print nicely).

firefox.i386 on x86_64 -- seems firefox can't locate it's theme
by Thorsten Leemhuis
Hi,
I'm one of those suckers that uses firefox.i386 on his x86_64 machine.
That worked fine on FC5 but now on rawhide firefox.i386 looks quite
different from the firefox.x86_64 on that my machine -- the colors when
browsing the booksmarks and many other small details are different.
It seems to me that firefox can't locate the proper theme or parts of
it. Does anyone else see this problem? Does anyone know where the root
of this problem might be before I file it in bugzilla?

gnome-mount -d /dev/fd0 does nothing to mount floppies

Re: FC5 lockup issues with ANY wireless driver
by gslink
Most wireless drivers in some version take more stack than the kernel is
configured for. When you run one of these you get lockups when running
other programs. Before complaining about any lockup with a foreign
driver installed you should ALWAYS find out how much stack it uses and
recompile the kernel, if necessary, so that there is enough stack.

my fc6t3 install experience
by David
Here's a quick summary of my fc6t3 install experience:
1) Still had X problems on my hardware... see:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=203185
2) Had problems installing with extras enabled.
3) manual network configuration required an IPv6 address even
when IPv6 wasn't selected.
4) netmask was wrong after installation... it was 255.255.63.0
whereas I thought I had selected 255.255.252.0. This might
have been ignorance or a typo on my part.? The manual IP
configuration could have some help or an example to make it
more clear what is supposed to be entered.
5) After using the network configuration gui to set the
netmask, LDAP still wasn't wasn't working, so I tried rebooting...
6) System hung forever (forever = 3 minutes) at eth0 initialization
on subsequent boot. I held down the power button and rebooted
back to fc5 where it looks like I will remain for a while. ;)

Eclipse broken after updating
by Patrick Lists
Hi,
This afternoon I did a yum update that touched a bunch of stuff like
eclipse. Since the update eclipse no longer starts. Steps to reproduce:
1) open a terminal and type "eclipse"
2) eclipse splash screen appears, then disappears
3) a gtk error dialog appears with text "An error has occured. See the
log file /home/patrick/workspace/.metadata/.log"
That log file is rather big. The last lines are:
