gnome-screenshot does what its name says, it takes a screenshot (with a
flash effect, which is what you describe). If you want to tweak settings
before taking the screenshot, run it in interactive mode:
gnome-screenshot --interactive
Yeah but the desktop file should run it in interactive mode (can't
check right now if it indeed does that).
