The CD's aren't too big for serving via the Apache HTTP instance. The
largest file size that can be expressed in a traditional 32-bit UNIX
operating system is 2 gig unless you use "Large File
Summit"-compatible APIs in your applications:

Older Apache versions don't support LFS.
According to
http://httpd.apache.org/, Apache 2.2 supports LFS.
Earlier versions do not.
