hal is creation reasonable fstab and /media/ points for each of the
devices, but nautilus is not seeing any of them in the Computer

gnome-volume-manager seems to be communicating correctly..and mounting
media on insertion if configured to... but nautilus is oblivious.

the disk mounter applet also seems to be oblivious but its behaving
extremely oddly so i can't be sure its the same problem.
