I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is a must... but synaptic is a
tremendous advance over dselect. The function that they both preform,
which is a must, is to allow you to find a package without knowing
exactly what it's name is in advance. (If you do, then apt-get is a lot
faster. A LOT!)
