Skype under Fedora-10/KDE

Is anyone successfully running Skype under Fedora-10 with KDE?

When I run it (from f=>Applications=>Internet=>Skype)
and try to make the Skype Test Call
I get the error message
"Problem with Audio Playback".

I've tried killing pulseaudio, but I get the same error message.

People have suggested that I modify the Skype settings,
but I see nowhere to do that.

When I run skype from the command line I get the same error message.
But when I stop I read

It;s all in the settings, if Fedora would only  make all settings 
"halfway" Default, it sure would stop a lot of heart aches .
I got Skype installed and working on a eeePC 701.
I yum installed  "gnome-volume-manager"  and run gnome-volume-control 
and open all channels/preferences
and selected each.

On my Laptop eeePC I uninstall Pulseaudio and sound begin to work, then 
I reinstalled Puseaudio and sound works, I had to find the MIC setting 
and adjust.

I know that sounds screwy but it worked, why, I don't know.

I take it you are running Fedora with Gnome.
I don't think this will help much with my problem,
which seems specific to KDE.

I've run Skype on two EeePC's (EeePC-1000 and EeePC 4G) with no problems.
But sadly I have moved over to Fedora-10/KDE on my 4 laptops,
and that means I have to run one in Windows XP to use Skype.

Incidentally, sound is working fine with pulseaudio on this F-10/KDE laptop.
It's just Skype that isn't working.

Various people have suggested unspecified changes in the Skype configuration.
But the only Skype config file I see is /etc/dbus-1/system.d/skype.conf
(which seems to me a very odd place for a config file)
and I've no idea what changes one could make here
if that is appropriate, which I doubt.

But surely there must be people running F-10 with KDE and Skype?
Please let me know if you are ...

Yes. Here's how to manipulate the settings:
- Open Skype
- Go online (this is crucial, otherwise you don't get the full config screen)
- Click on the "S" in the bottom-left corner and choose "Options"
- Choose "Sound Devices"
- Under "Sound Out", change the config from "Default" to the next one
(probably "HDA Intel (hw:intel,0)"

Now the "problem with audio playback" message should go away. This has
nothing to do with KDE/Gnome, by the way, at least as far as I know.

I never knew about the S=>Options menu.
What a strange place to put the S icon!

Actually, while this has removed the "Problem with Audio Playback" error,
I'm getting "Problem with Audio Capture" instead.
But now I now how and where to configure Skype
I should be able to solve this.

Just to follow up on my own posting,
I managed to get Skype working on my Thinkpad T43
by going to S=>Options=>Sound Devices 
and setting
  Sound In: Intel ICH6 (hw:ICH6,0)
  Sound Out: pulse
  Ringing: pulse

Unfortunately the sound quality when I play the Skype Test Call
is not very good -
not as good as Skype on the same machine under Windows XP.
I suspect this is something to do with the microphone setting.

Also the settings seem to be lost when I re-boot.

Still, that was quite a lot of progress for me ...

My sound works without those adjustments with the Intel-HDA.
But I have trouble with loosing MIC Capture everytime I reboot.
On a eeePC 702.

I run KDE, but I installed gnome-volume-manager because that App has the 
best access to the audio settings.
I have Skype working on KDE, but everytime I reboot I have to go into 
gnome-volume-control and re enable the MIC.
