Olá,
Não precisa reinstalar o yum, se o problema por headers, pacotes,
cache e etc ... basta limpar tudo:
yum clean all
e tentar novamente.

Desinstalar:
rpm -e yum
assim ele vai recriar os arquivos que armazenam os repositórios....talvez
funcione...
PS: tive que dar uma saída da frente do micro qndo vc entro lah no canal :p
