No meu caso que uso lxde,
tenho algo no autostart como:

~/.config/lxsession/LXDE $ cat autostart
@xbacklight -set 30

o que faz com que qdo ligo o pc tenho sempre o brilho que pretendo....

pode configurar o teclado tb para usar o xbacklight por forma a subir ou
descer o brilho ou eventualmente usar o
