Fedora EC2 image build instructions
by Justin Forbes
A walkthrough has been posted with instructions for building your own
Fedora based EC2 images (both S3 and EBS backed) on the Fedora Wiki:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud_SIG/EC2_Creation
As a part of this, appliance definition files have been added to the
cloud-kickstarts git repository fedorahosted.org:
http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=cloud-kickstarts.git
While the current plan is to move official Fedora image generation to
koji, we know that most users are not able to build images in koji. We
wanted to ensure that there was a process by which the community could
build EC2 images to meet their needs. As such, we will continue to
maintain the Fedora appliance definition files with each release. The
goal is to keep the appliance file as close to the official images as
possible (read stripped down), so that you can add what you need and not
worry about pulling in a lot of things you don't need. You can expect
the appliance definition files for each release to appear at roughly the
time of the alpha spin.
We welcome feedback, comments, patches, etc. on both the documentation,
and the supported appliance definitions.
Thanks,
Justin

Aeolus is in Fedora
by Mo Morsi
We just finished pushing the last of the Aeolus components into Fedora.
As soon as they propagate out to the mirrors, you should be able to
install Aeolus directly from Fedora via 'yum install aeolus-all'
Enjoy!

F15 EC2 Test Day Rescheduling
by Tim Flink
At the QA meeting on Monday, it was decided to delay the EC2 test day
that we were planning to hold on Tuesday until new AMIs from
koji were available.
Has there been any progress on this? Are there any thoughts on when to
schedule the test day? The first F16 test day is on 2011-07-28 and it
would be nice to get the F15 test day done before then but that's not
an absolute requirement.

Aeolus status
by Chris Lalancette
All,
I will be unable to make today's Fedora cloud SIG meeting, and mmorsi is a
maybe. I thought I would send a status update here for those who are
interested.
Today I just moved the Fedora 16 Aeolus conductor feature page to 100%.
We were waiting on a couple of patches to land in order to reach that
milestone, and they were pushed this morning. I'm sure we will still do plenty
of bugfixes between now and Fedora-16 release, but the bulk of the
functionality is there.
Other than that, there is not a whole lot to report from Aeolus.
Development is ongoing as always, and we'll be pushing new code to Fedora as
is warranted. Let me know if there are any questions.
Thanks,

Fedora S3 Backed AMIs
by Tim Flink
As I'm learning more about EC2 and AMIs, I'm wondering what the plans
are for Fedora S3 backed AMIs.
If I'm understanding correctly, an S3 backed AMI has no persistent
storage - once the instance is rebooted, all changes are effectively
reverted. This would mean that applying updates to an S3 backed AMI
would be a questionable process and any updates requiring a reboot
would be impossible.
Are we planning to release S3 AMIs on a regular basis or are we
expecting users to use the S3 AMIs to build their own images and take
on the responsibility of updating those images on their own? Or are we
focusing on the EBS backed AMIs that do have persistent storage?
Thanks,
Tim

Announcing Pacemaker Cloud 0.4.1 - Available now for download!
by Steven Dake
Angus and I announced a project to apply high availability best known
practice to the field of cloud computing in late March 2011. We reuse
the policy engine of Pacemaker. Our first tarball is available today
containing a functional prototype demonstrating these best known practices.
Today the software supports a deployable/assembly model. Assemblies
represent a virtual machine and deployables represent a collection of
virtual machines. Resources within a virtual machine can be monitored
for failure and recovered. Assemblies and deployables are also
monitored for failure and recovered.
Currently the significant limitation with the software is that it
operates single node. As a result it is not suitable for deployment
today. We plan to address this in the future by integrating with other
cloud infrastructure systems such as Aeolus (developer ml on CC list).
The software will be available in Fedora 16 for all to evaluate that run
Fedora. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. To provide feedback,
join the mailing list:
http://oss.clusterlabs.org/mailman/listinfo/pcmk-cloud/
If you have interest in developing for cloud environments around the
topic of high availability, please feel free to download our git repo
and submit patches. We also are interested in user feedback!
To get the software, check out:

ANNOUNCE: Packaging OpenNebula 3.0
by Shawn Starr
Hello everyone,
I am currently working with upstream to package OpenNebula 3.0 for Fedora.
Right now, we have all the rubygem dependencies packaged
I have someone from the Cloud SIG looking at them. The OpenNebula SRPM is not ready for review yet, it builds but I have to ask the Ruby SIG team some questions since I have some errors happening with rubygem module path loading.
