Hi Andreas,

metrics, when he's available to reply =)

Hello, my name is andreas and i live in greece, i am a new
fedora user
and member, i have been using several other distros the last 5 years
and i've finally ended up in fedora. I want to join the project in
order to expand my knowledge, acquire new skills and of course
to help
the community. I am a computational physicist, i have a basic
knowledge
in c/c++, python, fortran77, latex, matlab/octave, git and some
machine
learning. I'm currently searching for a job. Finally, regarding
CommOps, i'm interesting in metrics. I have no previous
experience with
any FOSS project, so some guidance would be helpful.
Hello, and welcome, Andreas! Sorry for the slow response to get back to
you, December has kept me busy. We're glad to have you here with us in
CommOps! Sounds like you have some good experience working with a
variety of languages.
I'm happy to hear that this is your first FOSS project to contribute
towards! That's a big milestone and I'm glad it can be with Fedora.
Before getting started in CommOps, it will be helpful for you to explore
the Fedora community a bit and see how all of the different parts fit
together. Our "Join" wiki page outlines some of these steps, and if you
haven't seen this page yet, definitely check this out and use it as your
guidelines for getting started.

One of the things I would recommend trying to do is working on acquiring
the "Bootstrapped!" badges series. Fedora Badges are a fun way to get
badges for doing things in Fedora. There are many good ones that will
help introduce you to Fedora. You can learn more about Badges and see
the Bootstrapped series below (the ticket URL has a list of badges that
are good ones to get first before others):

Metrics are definitely one of the things that we help work on. At Flock,
the annual contributor conference, we generated some ideas for the types
of metrics we wanted to try to find.

We have a toolbox of tools, services, and programs that can help us
generate metrics in Fedora. I encourage you to explore some of the
things in our toolbox and try to become familiar with some of the tools.

Bee might be able to offer more specific info about metrics or about
things we could use some help on.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! We're always
happy to help answer any questions while you get started. Again, welcome
aboard!
