Package Revision Needed
by Henrique Junior
Hello, all
I just finished the RPM for BkChem. The next step is to ask someone to
check it?
Any volunteer?
Here they are: http://lspooky.fedorapeople.org/

Why is hard-wired version dependency required by Packaging/Tcl?
by Tom Lane
At https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Tcl I read
Both arch-specific and noarch Tcl extensions MUST use
Requires: tcl(abi) = 8.5
which seems more than a little bizarre when every other part of the page
tells you that you MUST avoid putting hard-wired Tcl version number
dependencies into your specfile. And it also tells you exactly how to
extract the Tcl version dynamically. So why isn't this a better
solution?
Requires: tcl(abi) = %{tcl_version}

Adding mod_proxy_html to httpd package?
by Philip Prindeville
I recently found out that I needed but couldn't find mod_proxy_html.so
for my FC7 system running httpd-2.2.8.
Mod_proxy_html is GPL'd, so that's not an issue.
It looks like it just drops right down into the modules/proxy/ directory
and builds (with minor patching of the config.m4 file).
I was thinking of tweaking the existing package to build mod_proxy_html
as well, but put it into a separate %package.
If I do this for fc7, is someone else willing to code review it and
hopefully port the changes up to fc10 or rawhide?
Thanks,
-Philip

Unclear in the use of %doc
by Andrew Bartlett
I'm a bit lost on the use of %doc for manpages.
I'm building a package of Heimdal Kerberos, so I'm following a lot of
the MIT krb5 package as a pattern.
Should manpages be marked as %doc, or just other documentation?
Thanks,
Andrew Bartlett

Non-UTF8 gzipped manpages
by Andrew Bartlett
I'm getting warnings on all the gzipped manpages (I'm instructed by
rpmlint to gzip them) being not UTF8.
heimdal-devel.x86_64: W:
file-not-utf8 /usr/heimdal/man/man3/gss_krb5_ccache_name.3.gz
The character encoding of this file is not UTF-8. Consider converting
it
in the specfile for example using iconv(1).
Running:
man /usr/heimdal/man/man3/gss_krb5_ccache_name.3.gz> /tmp/heimdal.txt
[abartlet@naomi heimdal-mandriva-rpm]$ file /tmp/heimdal.txt
/tmp/heimdal.txt: UTF-8 Unicode English text, with overstriking
Indicates they are UTF-8, so what's going on here? I've attached this
example to this mail.
Thanks,
Andrew Bartlett

Menu entries
by Henrique Junior
Hi, folks,
I'm Henrique from Brazil and I'm trying to be a maintainer of a chemical drawing tool called bkchem.
After some reseach and with Terje's help the job is almost done, but I'm not able to make the RPM create a menu entrie for the software.
Can anyone helpe with this?
In the source folder we see bkchem-0.12.2/images that contains icons with many resolutions and a splash screen.
Thank you all

More alternatives fun and games
by Orion Poplawski
I just removed the 32-bit emacs package from a 64-bit machine and
/usr/bin/emacs went away, presumably because of:
preuninstall scriptlet (using /bin/sh):
alternatives --remove emacs /usr/bin/emacs-22.1
Is there any standard way we can avoid this? Count the number of emacs
packages there will be after removal?
