HP network printer not working with SELinux in enforcing mode
by Masood
Hi
I have a HP printer connected to my rawhide machine through wired Ethernet.
I have configured it using hp-setup utility but when I try to print anything
I get these SELinux denials:
SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/avahi-autoipd "net_admin" access.
SELinux is preventing /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups "name_bind" access.
SELinux is preventing /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups "getattr" access on
/var/lib/net-snmp.
SELinux is preventing /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups "search" access on
/var/lib/net-snmp.
SELinux is preventing /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp "name_bind" access.
Shouldn't everything work without requiring user to generate a local policy
for it? or have I screwed up something while configuring the printer?
Regards,
Masood

[Test-Announce] I18n Test Day Thursday 2009-10-29
by He Rui
Greetings,
This week we will focus on I18N <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/I18N> ,
and the test day is coming up tomorrow:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-10-29
The idea of this test day is to test common usage in your desktop
applications
in your native language, and identify any problems or weaknesses. The main
focused areas are:
1. display of text in browser, open-office, etc
2. input method: IBus
3. printing
4. localization
Therefore, testing the cases in many languages is highly welcomed and
the test
cases are not limited at all. Just come to the test day, try your
favorite language
and have fun! :-)
Don't forget to leave your precious results on the sites. See you there!

F12 Rawhide defaults to US keyboard layout
by Tom Mannerhagen
Hi
At every start the system defaults to US keyboard layout in spite of
always being removed from the list of layouts.
I found that the login screen shows me a list of USA and Swedish
keyboard, and always defaults to USA.
Defaulting US layout seems to be a new 'feature' since some updates ago,
because I can not remember I had this behavior earlier.
The installed system is based on the earliest F12 alpha release that was
made available as an ISO, always in phase with the rawhide updates.

theora screencasting not working in F12
by Kamil Paral
In all the announcements I read boasting how Thusnelda [1] (codename
for the new version of Theora) is available in F12. It seems to me
a little weird that nobody checked that it really works. From my
experience, all major theora screencasting apps (recordmydesktop and
istanbul) are broken. Recordmydesktop records one frame in several
seconds, istanbul records in disgusting quality. This is not what I
expect when I read those glorious announcements. I have reported a bug
about it [2]. Problem is nobody notices the bug also :)
So, I'm just curious, do you have some advice how to draw attention
to a particular bug the right people, except from reporting it into
bugzilla and waiting perhaps months or years? I mean it for this issue
but I also mean it generally for other (future) issues. Give me a hint
if you have some. Thanks!

Introduction
by Gonçalo Gomes
Hi everyone,
I am glad to join this community of Fedora BugZappers. I can't say I am a
big user of Fedora yet, as I only started officially using it since version
11 on my work laptop, but when it comes to Linux in general, I have been
using Red Hat for the most part of my time, having started in 5.0 (circa 98
or 99) which was my first Linux experience. To this day, I still remember
how it hurt adapting to a black-and-white reality: Unsupported WinModem, no
drivers for the particular S3 video card chipset I used back in the day,
FIPS vs Windows partition baptism of fire and a bunch of other seemingly
interesting experiences!
I have varied experience with Linux, from System Administration to
Development. I am actively interested in projects related to Virtualization,
Security, Development Tools, Debugging and Performance Analysis.
I am 27 years old, Portuguese, living in Dublin, Ireland for the past 1
year. I work as Support Engineer for an American company who sells a
virtualization product based on RH.
If anyone would like to reach me, I am available via gtalk/email/msn on this
email address. I am also part of the freenode stats, possibly ranking
somewhere in the top50 idlers under the nick 'goncalo', so your best and
safest bet would be using email to reach me.
Cheers,
Goncalo.

New BugZapper Introduction
by ronin3510
Hi guys,
I'm very glad to join at Fedora Bug Zappers Team. I've been dealing
with Linux in general for several years. For about two years my main
desktop runs Fedora 24/7 but I like to keep an eye on the other main
distros available (Think Debian, CentoOS, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu).
I'm preparing for RHCE and possibly LPI exam(s).
Using the nick "Nokia" the most visible part of my activity regarding
Fedora can be seen/evaluated by reading the forums.fedoraforum.org
On freenode I'm "nokia3510" and I've been around for a while in some
of the Fedora dedicated channels. Some of you perhaps already know me,
the others we'll know me better after reading this.
So let me introduce myself.
My name is Gabriel Sfestarof, I'm 31 years old and for a living I'm a
violinist in Bucharest Philarmonic Orchestra - Romania
My first contact with a computer was on a 486 DX Cyrix CPU and Windows
3.1 (and I've seen/used almost every version available till now)
In my spare time I administer a bunch of Windows/Linux boxes.
I have taken Cisco networking classes (CCNA 1-4, Wireless, Security,
Fundamentals of Unix/Linux) to mention a few
I'm very interested in security and system administration. Also, I'd
be glad if someone could spare a few minutes to mentor/get me started
in this new endeavour.
At my signature I'm sending my contacts for anyone to know how to contact me.
Bye
