Ximian Evolution does not response when I want to close it.
by 肇 鑫
hi, everyone.
The Evolution 1.4.4-5 does not response any more when I want to close it.
The message is like this:
The window "Summary - Ximian Evolution" is not responding.
Forcing this application to quit will cause you to lose any unsaved
changes.
I then choose Force quit.
and then I could still see evolution-alarm-notify and evolution-wombat
still exist by Syetem Monitor.
So I need to end the two processes and then restart evolution.
And when I close it again. The problem comes again. :(
Is there anyone who also encounter this problem? I have already update my
severn to the newest version.
Best Regards.

Re: Error in redhat-config-network
by Santiago Erquicia
Sorry, I was subscribed to the list with the digest so I didn't see the
response up to now.
The problem is not there. It is in "Network Device Control", but in the
error window appears rehat-config-network.
No, I'm using it as a normal user. I already filled a bug in bugzilla.
The problem is that it never ask for the root password.

initscripts changes for 2.6 kernel support?
by Robert P. J. Day
based on a couple different web sites, there are a number of changes
that seem to be appropriate in /etc/rc.sysinit (from the initscripts
package) for the 2.6 kernel, so i'm curious why they're not already
in the initscripts package at http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5.
i thought the whole point of those RPMs was to be compatible with
the 2.5/2.6 kernel (although i can certainly see how some of these
changes might break backward compatibility, so that might be a wee
bit of an issue. :-)
the sites are
http://www.fearthecow.net/kernel.html
http://thomer.com/linux/migrate-to-2.6.html
and the changes suggested are (and at least one of them makes
definite sense since it would get rid of a constant boot-time
error annoyance):
*** add support for sysfs mounting
*** change names of USB modules (which would get rid of the eternal
error of not finding keybdev and mousedev)
*** change all occurrences of "/proc/ksyms" -> "/proc/kallsyms"
comments? as i mentioned, the renaming of the USB modules makes
*immediate* sense to me as i see its effect every time i boot.
so, what's the status of initscripts and /etc/rc.sysinit regarding
these 2.6-related updates? thanks.

Jesse,
Exactly right. As an alternative I think it would be very helpful (and
legal) if Red Hat were to include RHL-specific installation scripts for
Java et al to make it easier for us to find, download, and install them.
These might be distributed in a '3rd-party-install-scripts' RPM.

What is minimum RAM to install?
by Janina Sajka
Is 64mB the minimum RAM required for installation these days?
I cannot find a reference in the Installation Guide for Shrike, so I'm
askint on the list. I know that I failed on an old Pentium that had only
32mb, and I couldn't think of any other reason for that failure.
PS: I note Suse is now requiring 96mb. So, is maybe even 64 not enough
for RH?

evolution binary size

Anyone know why evolution-1.4.4-3 was 9914260 bites and
evolution-1.4.4-5 from rawhide is 28103054 bites?

Unfortunately, it does not:
# rpm --rebuilddb
error: rpmdbNextIterator: skipping h# 920 Header V3 DSA signature:
BAD, key ID 897da07a
error: db4 error(16) from dbenv->remove: Device or resource busy
For the record, I'm using rpm-4.2.1-0.11 and up2date-3.1.46-2. Do you
think upgrading these to the rawhide versions would fix the problem?

This system is an IBM ThinkPad P-III/M laptop w/512M.

Preserving evolution mail during OS changes
by Robert G. (Doc) Savage
Before doing a fresh install of Severn on my laptop, I copied a tarball of
my home directory to another system. After Severn was intalled, I restored
my ~/evolution/ subdirectory from that tarball, and also reviewed my send
& receive mail configs.
This restored all old e-mail and folders. Inbound e-mail resumed
immediately, but I am unable to send evolution e-mail thru my ISP as
before. Every time I try to send a test message I get the following error:
Error while performing operation:
MAIL FROM response error: Command unrecognized: ""
NOTE: If there are any interested sendmail+evolution gurus reading this, I
can provide a Send/Receive session captured with Ethereal for diagnosis.
I'm not running a local DNS, and my home network gateway provides DHCP and
NAT services. /etc/resolv.conf points to my ISP's nameservers.
Fortunately my ISP offers RHL's squirrelmail web client to its
subscribers. I must now use that service to compose and send all outbound
e-mail (like now), but it's a PITB. Did I fail to do something I should
have when restoring my evolution files? Some dumb configuration setting I
forgot?

Severn text installer problem
by Jeff Anonymous
I'm running a Dell Dimension 8250 (512 MB RAM, PS/2 keyboard, Intellimouse
Explorer with PS/2 adapter, aftermarket modified only to have a real Audigy
2) and cannot get Severn to acknowledge my keystrokes at the language
selection menu in text installer (I am trying to install over FTP). RH8
installs fine, and last time I tried, 9 installed well, too. What can I do?
Thanks.
