+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #682716 +++
fontconfig-2.8.0-3
fc-match on "pa" gives different results than "pa-in".
$ fc-match :lang=pa
Lohit-Punjabi.ttf: "Lohit Punjabi" "Regular"
$ fc-match :lang=pa-in
DroidSansArabic.ttf: "Droid Sans" "Regular"
fontconfig knows about "pa" and "pa-pk", because "pa-in" isn't an exact match
it considers the full list of pa + pa-pk fonts and returns one of that set
fairly arbitrarily, better would be to return a "pa" more generic version when
there's no exact territory match.

fc-match -v "Times New Roman"
Description of problem:
Archaic "Berling Antiqua" has an alternative name field of "Times New Roman". I
guess here that there's arguably no bug seeing as the font *does* name itself
Times New Roman in one of its name fields, but it is a real nuisance as it gets
preferred above e.g. Liberation Serif if you have the misfortune to install it
How reproducible:
100%
Actual results:
fc-match "Times New Roman"
berling.ttf: "Times New Roman" "Normal"
Expected results:
Ideally we could somehow blacklist/scrub the "Times New Roman" name from
"Berling Antiqua"

Hello, here is a summary of the problem:
- with freetype 2.4.2, DejavuSansMono is rendered normally;
- with freetype 2.4.6, DejavuSansMono and the other fonts are rendered badly
(badly means here "not in the same way as with 2.4.2"): after some googling, I
have found it is due to the fact that the bytecode interpreter is now enabled,
and the workaround is to use autohinting:
"ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-autohint.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/"
This works great, but not for DejavuSansMono.
After trying freetype 2.4.5 without having any problem, I found it: it is the
patch
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freetype/freetype2.git/commit/?id=b0962a...
that is faulty.
Without it, DejavuSansMono is rendered normally using the last 2.4.6 sources
and autohinting.
Regards,
Alphonse

Description of problem:
A memory problem shows up when using freetype with libass, which causes (for
example) mplayer to quit when trying to play video files with SSA subtitles
using -ass parameter.
On opensuse 11.4 the C program I provided as an attachement works without
problems. But on Fedora 16, it crashes.
I built the C program with the default libass library and with version 0.9.11
(which is the same used in opensuse 11.4 ). In both cases the program crashes.
So I guess it's a freetype bug.
to build the C program :
gcc -o test_ssa -lass test_ssa.c
To test the C program :
./test_ssa neoin.ssa
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
How reproducible:
build the example program (see the attachments).
launch it with the subtitle file as an argument

1../test_ssa noein.ssa
