You might want to attend the IRC meeting and participate in the discussions regarding this proposal. Also try and pro actively address the objections raised and answer them within the wiki page. Not everyone in FESCo might have read the lengthy thread on the topic. IIRC, the primary and perhaps only real objection is that you are proposing to maintain a additional kernel package. Instead David Woodhouse, Alan Cox and others have offered to act as a gateway between you and upstream Linux community and remove the firmware out of the kernel in a way that satisfies the requirement of both the parties instead of maintaining a separate branch within Fedora.
