If there is a security issue with an extension, the packager might well want to distribute a patched version while waiting for a new release.
That's possible but the update process in Fedora is recently too slow. Even Firefox security updates sits in testing for week.
I'm not seeing this, at least as a general rule. Most firefox updates seem to be pushed within a day
guess you can trust the maintainer of the firefox package when he says it's slow :-) within a day is mostly impossible because of testing, karma and the timeframes for pushes
within a day is only possible if you download the build manually from koji
