I lived through the libata change and a coordinated release of updates is
not all that was needed in that case. For that change guinea pigs were needed
to test specific hardware. In my case my ATA card was having problems because
there were similarly identified cards that needed different drivers and it took
a while before the two sets were correctly identified. For a significant
part of that rawhide development the set of cards that worked switched back
and forth.
